  1. Pretty spot on I'd say...there is no law about lamping foxes as far as I'm aware but I simply do not use the shotgun after dark. It "tends" to get very still as the sun sets and a shotgun noise can travel up to 5 miles (really) so, simply out of courtesy to the neighbours I make a point of not using it after sunset. The shotgun, in most of its forms, is capable of stopping a fox easily but as John says I would not push my luck much more than 40-50 yards. I favour BB if I am specifically going out after the fox, although 3 or 4 could do the job! Fact is, I use the rifle on the fox, can
  2. I don't understand what you mean, don't the army, police and just about everyone else use nv on their rifles ?? a better quality but a dedicated scope. Around £5k a time, not available to the sporting community!! Also there are many people who use gen 1 scopes on live round rifles by adding an extra illuminator. Shooting up to 60 yards if you are lucky during a full moon! I think he was joking mate, although to get a decent set up you do have to spend plenty ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££. Worke
  3. Some interesting comments here, many of which I totally concur with. If this stalker struggles with Fallow and .243 he should consider another occupation, put bluntly, it's Pratt's like him that not only give us all a bad name but lead to even more ridiculous legislation being introduced!!! I totally agree that not every shot goes right but ANY .22CF put in the right place will EASILY stop ANY deer!!! Everyone seems to forget that one of the prime and original reasons for the .22Hornet (550-750ft lb) was DEER! Yes, we MUST be fair and reasonable to our quarry, nobody wants an injured
  4. Alright mate how you shooting them?? air rifle or shotgun?? if ya using a shotgun and you can take someone with ya with a lofting pole and poke the dreys and stand back and wait then i would say its better to go while its raining coz the rats will be in their dreys! 15 or 20p cartridge straight into the drey is a lot quicker and easeir than draging around a drey pole, (which also cost silly money as well) and you can do it all by yourself!
  5. Anything will do as long as it takes pics, I would be very grateful! I'm just off to Swindon, not back till late tonight, so if you happen to find it quickly and I don't get back to you I'm not ignoring you!
  6. What is Normal clay, DTL, Skeet, Sunday bash down the Farm, Full Bisley type sporting, etc??? Hunt around, there are some slow burns and low recoil 28 about, ask someone like justcartridges.com. What is this gordon recoil system?
  7. Yep they will tend to have less recoil than a 28g, however you still have to check whether the cartridge is High or Low velocity, this will also effect the kick. (also felt, plastic, etc wad) 24g for what sort of clay discipline, fine for Skeet but most will tend to use a heavier cartridge for most other disciplines?
  8. You will need to try some and see what you and the gun favour, always a strage one this as someone will say xxx is great and someone else will say xxx is rubbish! You say you are using a light load at the moment so I assume your Benelli (am I assuming to much) is NOT a S/A. These can be very fussy with light loads!
  9. They were approved under the new Act which came in last year until the Final Reading, then some dipstick decided to ask the RSPCA who responded by saying "they had no evidence to suggest it was humane", why the f**k didn't they look at Scotland...so Roe got removed at the last minute! What happened to "Inocent until proven guilty"? What they should've said was "We have no evidence to suggest that it is not humane.". Then it wouldn't have been an issue. Who invited that bunch along to the meeting anyway? Totally agree, and exactly; what the f**k does the RSPCA know about it
  10. Right everyone, I have now received a good number of PM's. I think I have responded to everyone, I notice my in box filled up a bit quick so I have cleared it now, if you didn't get through to me you can try again now! Deker
  11. Do you like going out in the rain, the wind, the cold, the snow etc etc...neither does the wildlife, wherever possible in adverse weather conditions they will keep their heads down! Inevitably they will have to come out sometime, but as a general rule if you don't like the weather neither do they! Oh...and don't forget the pain in the butt job of drying/cleaning the gun after rain!
  12. And generally a waste of time on anything over a 12ft lb air rifle (that should extend the life of this thread!)
  13. I've noticed that with some models, and frankly, never been able to understand why, but then again I've not bothered to investigate further!
  14. They were approved under the new Act which came in last year until the Final Reading, then some dipstick decided to ask the RSPCA who responded by saying "they had no evidence to suggest it was humane", why the f**k didn't they look at Scotland...so Roe got removed at the last minute!
  15. I got the same feeling by the end of the first page!
  16. We could go on forever with this one, but the above just about sums it up...if you are happy with what you can see through it then , job done!
  17. My mate's just done his DSC1, and he said that in Scotland some of the estates want a minimum of .270, and some want a minimum of 30-06 for reds . This seems a little over-the-top to me . Does seem a little strange (especially when they are fine for Roe with the .22 centrefires) but that has been the case for years! Scotland Roe....22 cf Reds.....243 (but often suggested 270+) England (Oh yes, and that place up the road.... errrr... I know.... Wales ) Roe....243 Reds....243
  18. I would have no doubt it would do the job perfectly well on the 4 Deer listed (despite what the law says) but to be honest I would prefer something with a bit more grunt if faced with an angry Boar! You have a chance with .243 for Boar but the suggestion is .308 minimum, so 22-250 is a long shot!
  19. Can you name them? Roe, Sika, Fallow and Red (Stork lists as England)...in addition you would have a hell of a job getting it approved for Boar!
  20. Just wondering why not having a moderator would make your 22/250 a waste of time? Are you not allowed to use them without being moderated? Just interested to know as everyone over your way seems to be obsessed with moderators, is it a legal requirement? Great calibre Stork, there is nothing in your country you cannot hunt successfully with this fast stepper. Totally agree, but there are at least 4 things he can't hunt legally with it!
  21. was thinking of a good quality leopold scope,do you think one of there 40obj would transmit good light i use a fixed power 6-42 smidt bender 30mm tube on my 223..do 200 yard rabbits with ease, 95% of my shooting is at night... would a 50 obj give a wier feild of veiw yes 50 does, have a look at other shooters scopes, or all of the scopes in the shop before you buy. Spend as much as you can afford on your scope, it's as important as the gun. As a general rule and like for like a 50mm MAY give you a wider field of view, this is not always the case and will vary from manu
  22. Bisley Magnum 21.4g AA Field and Hunter 16.25g I cant remember the speed difference last time I had the chrono out but I would have thought it was more than 20ft sec!
  23. WHAT THE IS THAT? Surely they can't place you under supervision???? Yes they can..it's actually quite common now! It's like being back at school . Yep, but if he keeps his nose clean he will be able to apply for the condition to be removed in a "few" months, usually 6 months+ and just possibly be able to get an open certificate at the same time. (probably a bit longer for the Open)
  24. James@Scarborough markbivvy I'd like to think Spud was joking but I'm not convinced! It is heartening to see some sense spoken by you guys
