  1. Were not Turkey fans and we generally have 3 or 4 different meat joints and then people can have a choice. Pheasant, beef, lamb and gamon. This year the girls have said that we have got cut back because there is just too much food. The stuff keeps coming like a conveyor belt. It is nice though.
  2. A nice old brown beast there. I wonder how old it is? I bet that could tell some stories of days out in the field and the men that have used it. About 20 years ago I had a bit of a sort out of old guns that had accumulated from various sources and I gave away 4 guns that I considered to be junk. 1 folding sb 410, 1 folding sb 12 pedretti and 2 hammer 12 bore doubles. 1 was quite reasonable and after the event I wished that I hadn't have offloaded the best 12 hammer. Still that's unfortunate. I probably wouldn't have used it anyway.
  3. So what do you think about the article. To me it was two sort of opposing statements. Surely they will still be talking to each other after the event.
  4. I read this article which appears to be very muddled. In one statement we are being kicked out but when I read on it appeared that due to our Brexit decision we will be leaving. Whichever way it goes it seems a bit barmy for either side to reduce intelligence and cooperation in things like drugs, weapons and undesirable characters (pedos) ect) to go undetected and on the loose anywhere. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/brexit-britain-to-be-kicked-out-of-europol-against-its-will/ar-BBFUkXt?li=BBoPRmx
  5. I think that the women's game has come on in great strides and that the players are now full time professionals. Ok it isn't as strong as the men's game but that is a physical strength issue. The play and the results are where their strengths lay. Out in Italy women's football is a much higher level and as it gets stronger here more money will come in and it will become more popular and influential. The days of games being watched by a couple of old boys and a dog are a thing of the past. And the commitment of the staff and players is Very high.
  6. The 243 comment Was because I know several people who have gone the 243 route because the 243 has got a lot more punch and wind riding ability out at range. Just because the 243 is more powerful you don't have to drive the tool at full chat. A Ferrari doesn't have to be driven flat out. The blokes that I know who use the 243 use light loads and bullets in the 55grn range. I have 222, 223, 243 and 270. I have a super accurate light load for the 270. I usually use the 223 because I like it but I would use the 270 also if the fancy took me. At most sensible ranges that a target is identified and
  7. I am watching the match and I reckon that they would beat the mens team in skill and playing entertaining football. I know that the crowd would get lost in Wembley but Colchester??? No disrespect to Colchester but it's a wonder that they haven't been made to play up the local village pitch with a few cars parked round the pitch using thier headlights to illuminate the pitch. Well done the girls 5-0 up. They've got 10 mins left so it could be more yet.
  8. I am quite a fan of Sierra and use the 55 bthp gameking in my 223. I load 4895 and the result is hot. They go over the chrono at 3400. I'm confident out to about 300 paces but eighty is more the norm for me because I can identify the target clearly.
  9. I am not advocating any sort of gun because I've got all sorts but I kind of get the feeling that for some reason some guns are looked down upon as if they of no use whatsoever. It's like short barrel guns. Back when in the day of black powder barrels were 34" to get the velocity of the slow burning powder. When nitro came along barrel lengths reduced down to the famous XXV churchill. No one wants to know anything about short barrel guns now which is just fine because there are some super bargains of quality to be had. Nowadays the fashion states that it has to be a single trigger O/U somewhe
  10. I remember those cap bomb things. We got banned from using them at school. The lads used to load a large amount of cap strip in the front and had mass throwing of them at the school wall. The head came out and told everyone to stop using them because it was too much. If it went bang we tried to blow up something with it. Weedkiller and sugar mix. Well anything that we could get our hands on.
  11. What fox would want to mess about with stinky old bucks and flea ridden myxy rabbits when you got kind old grannies bringing you top quality honey roasted ham, best bacon and other goodies down for a chat about hounds and the wind and stuff like watching the sun go down. What's the alternative? Eating crap raw food and worms and being chased by hounds and being shot at. I'd take the handouts from the old granny. One of The downsides of having a resident fox in your garden is when the devil digs under the garden shed and it stinks to high heaven and the shed falls down due to the under digging
  12. Is all of the above a perceived sort of plasibo effect? When I've been on game shoots, People who shoot sbs with double trigger knock em down dead just as well as those who use an o/u. It is only shot going down a tube after all. I have a whole raft of stuff from single barrel, sbs, o/u, pump with single and double trigger and I don't have a preference for any of them. I can understand it from a competition point of view but not for general shooting. I know that some people chop and change their chokes at every station but I put 1/2 choke in and I never change although I have the option to.
  13. I typed in a reply and it vanished !!!. As above post about weight with scope, moderator, bipod and stuff. It's ok if you're operating off of a vehicle but it ain't much fun humping that load about. Unless you are shooting loads of rounds and heat of the barrel is an issue then you don't necessarily need a varmint barrel. Consider cost of ammunition and reloading ect. I don't know what the cost of bought ammunition is because I reported all of my ammo apart from 22lr obviously. Both Cal's are good but if I were going for the 250 I would ask for a 243 instead. Or consider a 222. There's a lot
  14. Can't see the picture, it's so dark. Somewhere in the attic there is a box of toys and in that box there is a model 25 pounder which fires matchsticks. It probably goes back to the 40s or 50s
  15. No one will ever know but It would be interesting to know what happened to cause this problem with its eyes. It really looks in good condition though. Are there houses where it might be being fed. My sister has a den in her back garden and over the years there have been a series of resident foxes. She has treated them like pets to the point of hand feeding them crusts of bread and the like. They stay for some time and then they go and another arrives. Sometimes a fox has returned some months later. It's as if they have moved out of the area for some reason. In another situation the neighbours
  16. Is that a comment from Craig Revel-Horwood. >>> Fat slightly too hot - DARLING. 5 !!
  17. I would think that it may survive by using heightened sense of smell and hearing. this might have the effect of moving slower around working out it's surroundings. "I've got my ear on you".
  18. What do you know "grasshopper". It does look blind but it seems to be in good condition. I wonder if it is clearing up birds after a shoot or along the road. The shoot along the road to work looses a few to traffic. The fox was on the trail of that pheasant.
  19. As above. It seems as if a lot of people feel that unless a gun is a 30+inch, single trigger, multi choke o/u gun then it isn't any good. There are loads of superb SbS's on the shelves of gunshops that don't move and the value of them is very low. Most gunshops won't consider one in a trade in. They just don't shift. But why they will bring down pheasant or anything that they are designed for. Now I have all sorts of guns singles, pump, SbS's, O/U I don't favour any one over another. So why have SbS's gone out of fashion?
  20. I've got a section 1 pump action 8shot shotgun. never had a problem with the authorities for having it or justifying having it. I use it for rabbit shooting from the back of a vehicle because of the mag capacity. Apart from club range shooting for fun, I can't see that the long barrel pistol and mars type rifles have any use or reason.
  21. Surely bacon comes from pigs, and as such no specific brand can be best. It can only be as good as the quality of the product. Don't fuss about what wrapper the bacon has, just eat the blooming stuff. It's about what you eat it with. Get your laughing gear round this lot. >>> https://www.google.co.uk/search?client=tablet-android-pega&biw=960&bih=600&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=830YWsDPCOHNgAbq0LbwDg&sjs=1&q=full+english+breakfast&oq=full+e&gs_l=mobile-gws-img.1.0.0l5.61667.68169.0.70617.18.9.1.0.0.0.1011.3073.2j1j1j2j6-1j1.8.0....0...1.1j4.64.mobile-gws-i
  22. stand down. it is being reported as a false alarm.
  23. they can only report the information as they get it. if the area is on lock down then theres not much that they can do about it but wait. our thoughts must go anyone injured or worse in this incident. lets just hope that any terrorist involved in this has been iliminated. painfully prefferably. its the people in the shadows who instigate this that need dealing with.
  24. I’d have thrown away the key. If it was my daughter he would never have got to trial. sid the consequences. Thought it was a burglar !!! Failure to identify the target. And even if it was a burglar what was he nicking? The pan. Just totally arrogant. I bet all his friends start squeaking about how unfair the sentence is. Still someone might help him along the road in there with a bit of rope.
  25. The village that I live in has been told that the council expect to allow 450 new houses !!!!! So the first application went in and there is a woman who took the whole system on. She ran the system ragged. Stuff like nesting birds, various mammals, hedgehogs, ancient hedges ect ect. Now the village is in an area classed as an area of outstanding natural beauty. Well by the time they had been through all of the nature studies the government inspector had his tern. The first thing that came into play was "this site is in an area of outstanding natural beauty and as such can not be considered bec
