  1. Good job pops,..nice looking animal mate. Ive found that the big running dog types are much better run with NO collar on, while hunting coon...the coon will ball-up on the collar, and can chew the living hell outta a dog...much better off with no collar imo...thats what we do anyway mate...get him on plenty, and he will be able to get it done with little to no fuss...we have three bitches here, that get the crap chewed outta them, big strong bitches as well, and they can struggle with a coon...my male has been on over a hundred i should think now, and can choke one down fairly good to be
  2. As a disclaimer guys, the pic of Tor (stumpy tailed staghound bitc) and the coon and cat, i think Tor only caught a couple of them, some where caught buy other dogs (a saluki cross) but Tor was the only dog in the yard at the time, so RK just snapped a shot!..lol. Oh, and as for the pick of all the coon in Iowa...36!!!!...the fecking cheek of it all!...there is 56 coon there, not a great haul, but its end of season up there, and we also found a few dead of Distemper etc... The Amish do like to hunt, i have been digging with one quite well known Amish guy in Ohio, and his terriers whe
  3. Hi JigSaw,..just got your PM mate, no worries!.. Do you wanna stay in one place?...road trip?...to be honest mate, if i was in your boat, i would defo give Las Vegas a thought...you can do eveything there, sightsee, travel (Hoover dam is REAL close, and the Grand canyon is only a short drive, buy american standards!..about 4hrs)... SOOOOO much to do there mate, and Lake Mead is right there!...you can rent jet skis, boats etc, we used to BBQ and spear fish all the time there...a great place to kick back and relax! I lived in Vegas for 2 1/2years, and it is a MAD place!...real coo
  4. Ratkillah came back to visit,...as always, it was great to see him, and get out with the dogs as much as possible. The first time he came, we took 101 head of game, in three weeks, this time he stayed the same amount of time, but we only took 86 (i think?) head,...we have a REAL BAD outbreak of Distemper, and Parvo in our area at the moment, and it has knocked seven shaeds of shit outta the local wild life...we also had my main Staghound (Blister) out of action the whole time he was here (toe infection) and my main digging dog (Agro) was out of action, because of his hip surgery...we done
  5. ANOTHER question for you guys!..lol. How about offal?...i just picked up a shit load of liver and heart, both being from cattle...can i use that instead of flesh as a protein source?... Many thanks.. Jay..
  6. That fox is a DEAD ringer for a American Gray fox Fish,..and they will go up a tree like a cat...if you say thats a Red Fox in the UK, then thats that,...but that looks so much like a Gray!...i guess a fox is a fox..lol...nice pic though mate,...the frost makes it look good. Kye..
  7. I would say 90% of the Staghounds over here have Deerhound in them,...and along with good, tested greyhound blood, that makes up the majority of there genetic make-up,...there is other stuff in 'em, but thats what they are MOSTLY. I got my Stags, and raised them as Lurchers,...they have done well on everything, from rabbits, right the way upto coyotes (not been on a bunch though) and badger (usa) and raccoon... My male (29" and 70lbs) is the bestest running dog ive ever had...bit of a late starter on toothed game, but feck me, once he got going!, he is now the best dog for killing mo
  8. Its quite common with Gray fox,...i didnt know they was in France? Kye..
  9. Good stuff mate,... Dont you just HATE picky eaters!..lol..Tiffs bitch (lovingly called 'Slag'..lol.) that bitch will eat ANYTHING!...and i do mean anything!...the only dog ive ever seen, kill a SKUNK and start eating it!!!...crazy! There was a Cows head that i should have picked up from the meat place!...i didnt even think about that...it had loads of meat on it, plus the tounge and everything...im sure the dogs would of loved that!... Im thinking that i should of loaded up on deer meat, while the season was going!... Having said that, the farmer across the lane keeps cattl
  10. You must have posted as i did mate, just seen the info on the bread, thank you.
  11. Cheers Socks, that IS what i thought, i was just wanting to make sure of it...especially as i got about 50lbs of beef fat in the shed/freezer!..lol. Tiff actaully got me a Band/Meat saw for Xmass, and it has a mincer on the side!!!...so, maybe we should just spend a day mixing flesh/fat/veg into small portion sized bags?...then keep the bones for them to just chew on, and get what they want outta them? Socks, how about bread, instead of rice mate?...we can get about 200 loafs of bred for 4 quid...its mixed, whole-grain, brown, white etc...would that be of any use in the diet of a har
  12. Thanks SM,...so the fat is fine, but it does need the flesh for the protein source?...is that right? Kye..
  13. Once again, thanks for the informative replys guys,.. Heres ANOTHER question though!..lol. What is the protein content of fat from beef?...i went to pick up flesh yesterday, and what with deer season being over, there was only a couple of deer left over, but they had just done a Cow, and there was LOTS of fat...i grabbed the lot!..lol...can you feed just fats?...is there enough protein in the fat, to use that instead of flesh?...i would think that they NEED flesh as well as fat, but just curious if you can use the fats as a main protein source?...and will that have bad/good affects on
  14. Thanks alot mate,...they dont get carrotts alot, thats just what they happened to have last night,...most times they have veg, its normally broccoli, cabbage, spinnach etc...mostly leafy green veg etc,... Thanks for the info!...off out again tonight, we will see how they do.. Thanks again mate, all the best.. Jay..
  15. Thanks for the very informative replys guys!,...good reading! Tiffs getting outta the terriers, and she has gone 'Big-Dog-Crazy'...if it 'aint got Saluki in it, she dont want it!...lol. Just so you guys know,...we dont get Bisto, or PROPER gravy over here,...maybe i can get hold of it somewhere, but im not sure where?... Socks, when we do the veg, some of our dogs like it, and others pick at it, and some refuse altogther to eat it (cheeky feckers, poor Tiff spends about 1.30hrs a day just preping dog grub!..lol.) Yesterday, they had venison for breakfast in the morning (meat
  16. Ive had pregnant does, kits, young rabbits at every month of the year when ferreting...we usualy started late september, and finished end of Febuary same as most of our hunting...mainly pest control. Kye..
  17. Thanks Socks,...just the guy i was hoping would reply!..lol. The meat there on is fairly lean (venison) so we are adding fresh cuts of beef fat/trimmings that we get free, and veg, and they are doing well on it!...thanks for the info mate. Jay,..
  18. What size is the cream coloured Saluki cross mate?...thats my type of Saluki hybrid!...looks a nice type...would love one like that when we get a place in Wyoming!... Kye..
  19. There are dogs that can and do, do them single, but they 'aint common!...thet Grace bitch is summat special though...she will catch hares, and she will hang onto a bear!...crazy mo-fo, thats for sure!... These guys can get on quite a few 'yotes in a day aswell, so they have to think of the numbers as well...yeah, you could run single handed, but the dog would only be good for one!...these guys do it for pest control, but they do it to see the dogs work aswell...there are some VERY good dog men over here. Jay.. PS...Scotsman, i would love to see what them Aluant hybrids would make
  20. In the first pic, the fawn coloured bitch is called Grace, and she is used on anything, from hares to bears,...she will smoke a coyote on herself,..and the black dog in the pic with her, is, i think, a dog named Zorro, and he will do them singled up as well...imo, the lads who run in this group, test there dogs more than most, and will run doubles, rather than just putting a 'pack' of dogs on a coyote,...there is alot of guys who will dump 5-6 dogs on a coyote,...i wouldnt do that, coz if i did, i would certainly be asking questions about the dogs!..lol...each to there own though...i will add,
  21. Bring as many kids as you like!...there would likely be enough coyotes etc need skinning out, plus dog/horse mess to deal with!..lol...the more help the better!...plus in Wyoming, there would be enough snow to build as many snow men as you like! Kye..
  22. Bad luck mate...my bitch Staghound has done that same injury many times, it will heal up quick though...i just run the staple gun over it, and she is ready to go in no time at all!...i hate the wire, loads of it around here! Kye..
  23. Thanks for the interest guys!...ive had quite a few PM's..lol. As i said, i wouldnt want to be a rip-off!...that is NOT what i want to do...and its not what its about anyway!...i just think it would be nice, to offer guys an exsperiance that they may not have had the chance to do before!... There are guys over here, that DREAM of some day, getting lucky enough to 'draw' a tag for a trophy bull elk...there was a guy on TV that i saw...he was an older gentleman, of around 60...he had put in, every year, for 25 YEARS to draw a tag for a Big Horn Ram,...he finaly got drawn for the tag, a
  24. People talk about getting running dogs fit, and battle dogs ready for what they do,...yet the poor little dirt dogs never get a mention!... I get all my dogs in the best shape that i can before they are taken out to do what they are kept for...i agree, nothing will get a digging dog fit, like digging will, and to be 100% "on" a digging dog has to be dug to!...same as with hare coursing dogs etc... BUT,.. To exspect a dog, to go from kennels, to battle (which IS what digging is to the little tykes!) is mad imo,..i am NOT a terrierman...i just keep a few terriers, and they take gam
  25. Its nothing more than a 'idea' at the moment guys!...we are just looking into it,...if it seems like we could do it, and make enough money doing it, then yeah, we will more than likly have a crack at it, and give it a go... So, how much would you guys pay?.. Seven days, 3 hot meals a day, in a log type cabin?...nothing super fancy mind you, but it would be cosy and warm, you would be well fed, have a warm bed, and a shower... Coursing hares, chasing coyotes, maybe some digging, some lamping...a little shooting maybe...some mooching...hunting with sighthounds, while sat on the ba
