  1. That was some whippet that ? the one I know of now is very similar.
  2. You won’t know them, not sure quite how it’s bred, but there’s a bunch of mike brown stuff in there im sure. He’s a handy dog.
  3. They are treating you like that cos they think you and your mate are intruders, which I guess to them you are. Just catch them up and sell them, you will get tidy money. Not everything needs to be shot as a solution lol.
  4. You're right about herds, seems to flummox a dog at times, also noticed at the start it can fry the brain of a real stock broke dog a bit, not seeing the trees for the wood as it were. Seems to be time of year though, see roe in 1-3 most of the year, fallow seem to herd up at times, and at others we seem to see lots of 1-3 animal groups. Also I've noticed that once a herd is scattered, they seem to lose their heads a bit and stand about confused in various places.
  5. Id buy them but its an eight hour round trip or something daft, would pay postage happily.
  6. I’d think there’s been a few dogs killed by such animals.
  7. That’s a very fair thing to say, roe might run like f**k, but there’s pretty much zero fight once they are grabbed, there would be more fight in a munty. Fallow can kick and struggle like f**k and getting clobbered by a hoof must hurt a fair bit. Also just a lot more size and weight to get your gob on and anchor when running...... But there are dogs out there dropping fallow bucks and big ones to, so hence my question, if it’s believable that a single good dog can stop a big prime rutting fallow buck, how come it’s so unbelievable that a dog or dogs can stop a less well fed, hill wintere
  8. There were some great posters on here, genuine dog people. Loved molls ratting threads and her photos, it’s a real shame this place does a death, but a bit like the other place, the idiots took over and just did everyone’s head in.
  9. I once pre ban hunted the same roe buck for about four months, from harvest until sometime in December, ran it a few times in different spots and it very fairly got away through shear speed, agility and running brain, the thing was awesome to watch, eventually it lost the race, and to be fair the dog really deserved it, and it was a kind of happy / sad moment. I’ve still got his head.
  10. Aye that was kind of where I was going, its not as simple as one species is hardest and one easiest.
  11. There you go then, we pretty much agree. Wasn’t that hard mate.
  12. That’s the thing - absolute bull shit and yet youve not seen one, let alone tried to run one ....... just find it curious how people’s minds work that’s all ......
  13. Aye that’s it you’ve never seen one but you still are fairly sure it’s impossible to catch one ....... see my point ? Again not being a prick. I reckon I’ve seen some lowland fallow that would drag some of those hill stags about the place ......
  14. What I was asking was - are all red deer automatically harder to pull than all fallow deer. You honestly reckon all red hinds are bigger and harder to stop than all fallow bucks ? That a shagged out hill red or one that’s had a hard winter or is getting on in years and is on rough ground is harder to stop than a rutting fallow buck in his prime? Just curious as all reds are Always treated as an impossible dream and yet folk don’t question people dropping a rutting fallow buck In its prime ..... Very same with fallow, seen plenty that are shite, little real body mass and spi
  15. Aye no worries, I shall await the multitude of answers ..... And it’s not a trick question ? And before some Herbert says it, I’m not claiming to be an expert, claiming my dogs are legends or claiming I’ve ever caught a red deer ?
  16. Aye I know...... interesting though, I have asked a genuine question ...... twice ...... and it’s gone very very quiet .....
  17. Like I said mate I’ve never run reds.
  18. Genuine question - are the experts saying that all reds are harder to stop than all fallow? Straight question.
  19. Some interesting replies as usual on these threads. Im not really qualified to comment too much as I've never really run them or seen them run in the flesh, but I've had the pleasure of seeing them in various bits of the country so will throw my bit in lol. There is a massive variation in them, just like all species. They all all big, but an unfed hill red on furthest flung bits of the highlands, is a world away from a southern beast who's been running about eating silage grass and maize crops. Im sure probably more folk than you'd think have killed hill reds, especially does, and fo
