  1. Agree with you there. if you were going to do this cross to a working dog i'd imagine you'd do it to the best working dogs available. which begs the question, how good are the wolves used in these crosses?
  2. I suppose the bloke wanted to start his own line or breed, maybe an ego thing? I was told years ago that the working lines of GSD's in this country were f**ed and you had to go to Europe to get a good one. Maybe this fella had access to wolves and it was easier than importing good dogs.
  3. Thought people would charge more than that, look how much they charge for bulldogs, frenchies etc
  4. once read about a bloke in south Africa crossing wolves with german shepherds for security dogs, he said the ideal mix was 1/16th wolf, for extra stamina, strength, nose etc, anything more was too wild
  5. Bet the car hire firm did well out of that video! how w come all these young black kids that get stabbed are always "in the wrong place at the wrong time", "never had anything to do with gangs" etc etc, what a load of bollox. The last couple of generations of these youth see no value in anything, wanting respect without earning it. how many young black apprentices do you see on sites? It's like an honest trade is beneath them. Never mind about not knowing their fathers, if you see/hear the mothers it's no wonder they're the way they are. I've had mobs of them about 13 yrs old trying
  6. .... and maybe wear some gloves!
  7. Playing those calls just woke the dog up! lol
  8. Anything the govt or power companies want you to do has to be a bad idea! Where did I put that tinfoil ...
  9. Looks good, Catch it yourself?
  10. Don't know if she counts Victorian bulldog x Stafford
  11. I've never said catch dogs were game in the way a "game dog" is game. My original question was about hunting ability and would a proven bulldog used for catching add anything to the mix. the dictionary definition of game is "brave, courageous, valiant, plucky, bold ... " I think they've had this argument in the terrier section, where it seems only pit bulldogs can be game, whereas to me a racehorse can be "game", boxer can be game, etc . The aussie who told me about his pig hunting said him and his dad used 2 bull arabs as finding catching dogs, whilst these dogs might not be game in the pit
  12. Don't boars have tusks then? If it was just a case of grabbing ears a lot of dogs could be trained to do that if nothing was coming back at them. An aussie told me one of the main reasons hunters got dogs from the pound for pig hunting was the wastage involved, in oz they weren't big on chest guards apparently, and when they got a good dog it was prized and bred from ie worker to worker
  13. But if a bulldogs being used as a catch dog you know it's going to get stuck in even if it's been nowhere near the box, would anyone consider using this type?
  14. Yeah, most of the ones I've seen have been the bigger type, have seen some that look more like the game dogs. I suppose with the hog dogs you would know they've got prey drive
  15. Just out of interest if it were possible, when using bulldog for a bull x would you go for game blood or go for a bulldog used as a proven catch dog on hogs?
  16. Watched the working group, hounds and terriers fast forwarded most of it, the only dog that looked anywhere near fit was the boxer! As for the rest you couldn't see a rib between them, not surprising when you see the owners/handlers tho! The state of the mastiffs types was pitiful. Just waiting for the comments about the cracking whippet ....
  17. You could always make chicken broth with what you've got left!
  18. When feeding raw chicken carcass, get bones for calcium, marrowbone, fat, bit of flesh, can't beat it! I also get chicken pulls, and the leftover lamb rib & backbones bones, 2 meals for a £1, lamb hearts, chicken necks, turkey necks and mince mixed with veg . Would only feed raw now, think it works out cheaper and better value than processed food
  19. Always the way, the dogs ready and the game disappears! when you get to give her a run, don't forget your camera!
  20. Seen some of them, can be a good watch, better than anything you'd see about hunting on TV, they had a good segment about badger control in Sweden using dogs.
  21. Seems a bit young to me to be spayed, if spaying i'd prefer the dog to be older so it fully developed and all the hormones have done their bit in the growing dog. Seems to me vets want to spay as early as possible, they don't tell you about risks such as increased risk of ligament damage, incontinence etc. I think it's a bit of a cash cow for vets, it always makes me laugh when I see their faces when I tell them I don't plan to get the dog spayed/neutered.
