Whats The Next Best Scope Apart From- 3X9-56 ?
PeskyWabbits replied to foxtails's topic in General Airgun Discussion
loads on ebay I haven't ever bought a scope new. All mine have arrived either with a second hand rifle, or bought from ebay. I have always gone for named brands. Reading the forums tells you which are the good makes and the best models. Clarity of the glass is better than range of magnification. A Mildot reticle is a wise choice as you can learn the pellet drop. IR - illuminated reticle can be handy for dark backgrounds but treat it as a convenient feature rather than a must have. And... take the advice that is offered as it comes from experience. Pesky -

The ASI (El Gamo) Sniper and Paratrooper were both available in repeater form. I think most people suffered from jams and ended up removing the mechanism, which was a sprung tube. The pellets had to be just right

I had a similar issue. I have a outbuilding that borders my neighbour's garden. She has a ivy type plant that started on a frame fastened to the stone wall outer ( I did kick up a fuss at the time but because it was on a frame I conceded) So, it has spread, across and into the wall and under the stone slates. So a big problem. 1st step, have a nice chat to say I need to remove it. This didn't go very well as it is her favourite plant 2nd step, show the damage - pointing compromised, tubers under the slates. So she says, you can remove what is inside the shed but please leave the m

Best Beginners Air Rifle For Around £300?
PeskyWabbits replied to AshDove's topic in General Airgun Discussion
I was on the airgunforum the other day and the plusses and minuses of the Hw90 were discussed. The good bit is they are a really well made gas ram, good trigger, you can sit in a hide and wait with a cocked and loaded gun without worrying about damaging a tensioned spring. And are reasonably easy to DIY. I have considered getting one myself. The bad is that they are really heavy, like heavier than an Hw80, or TX200 or... And they can leak. The full thread is here Pesky -
When Did You Get Your First Scope?
PeskyWabbits replied to PeskyWabbits's topic in General Airgun Discussion
My first new scope was an unbranded 3-9 x 50 off ebay and only about 4 years ago. After that I have been buying Hawkes: Eclipse, HD, Endurance. All s/h off ebay. -
Best Beginners Air Rifle For Around £300?
PeskyWabbits replied to AshDove's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Hw95 is more or less a scaled down Hw80. It is a modern Weihrauch with a very good reputation. A medium weight rifle. Hw99 is a light weight rifle. Built for 12 foot pounds legal limit. Seems more popular (based on this and other forums) than the Hw95 but pretty much an equal. There was an issue with the cocking arm rubbing on earlier models. I think there is a fix available. A lighter air gun can suffer more recoil. .177 versions are regarded as snappy compared with a smoother .22 version. Both good guns. You will read all about the trigger on an air rifle, how crucial it is for -
'The Beginners Air Rifle' post has spurred me on with this one. I don't want to hijack that thread so here we are. My first gun was a second hand BSA Meteor .22 that i paid £15 for when I was 16. I was working when I got my next gun, so it was brand new. An ASI (El Gamo) Magnum .22 (£47 from Streatham Armouries) which I hated. My second choice would have been the Webley Victor. After that it was a brand new Webley Vulcan Custom .22 from JS Ramsbottom for £99 it was New, Old Stock. Since then they have all been second hand. It would have to be a really good deal to tempt me t

Open sights or a scope? Well using a scope is pretty much de rigueur these days. Especially as I reckon most new guns are designed for them and no longer have fittings or are supplied with open sights I got my first when it came with a second hand Hw35 and that is a Weaver 1.5 x 1" up till then I just used what came on the gun. Age (BSA Meteor bought off school friend for £15 when I was 16) and finances then just finances were the main reasons for staying with iron sights. Aren't we all so much better off these days? So what was your first telescopic sight? And for a bonus poin

Best Beginners Air Rifle For Around £300?

Weihrauch Hw99 is under £300 new and well up for that. With the quality to last for decades. Or go for something second hand. https://www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk/weihrauch-hw99-s-22 And you should have enough change for a decent scope and mount. I would make yourself familiar at a local airgun club first though. Like minded individuals, good banter and people willing to let you use their guns, so you get to know what handles well for your frame. There are lots of quality makes and some reasonable budget models too. But the budget models may make you regret your first purchase. -
I saw your post and thought 'what a good idea' but, yes, the feedback suggests the technology isn't honed yet https://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B00427K980/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_viewpnt_rgt?ie=UTF8&filterByStar=critical&reviewerType=all_reviews&showViewpoints=0&pageNumber=1 And alternative products don't seen to fare any better.

Which Is Your Fav` Hunting Calibre/ Weight ?
PeskyWabbits replied to mark williams's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Maybe this is where I am going wrong. I think today will be a HW35 / .177 Pro Sport / .22 Pro Sport / HW100 (delete as required) day Extract the gun from the cabinet, grab the most full tin of pellets, try and zero it in in 5 shots then off I go. The Hw100 is set up with a borrowed ATN Night Vision, so that is night hunting rats. Or more correctly, sitting in the cold, trying to stay awake. Peering through a coke bottle sized sight that hangs uncomfortably off the back of my rifle. My success rate is so poor, I have put down half a bucket of Tom Cat blocks. I had better success wi -
Hw97???
PeskyWabbits replied to Furrosious ferreter's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Whatever it is FF, I am pleased you are spending time with it. Now make sure you really get to know it and whatever you do.... don't get another gun. Stick with this one. On here, myself included, are though weak souls that can't help buying guns. Novelty, desire, I don't know what it is. Each different gun dilutes your skill. Another hold position, another recoil to learn. Another 'how do I load this in....position, or in the dark, or... So stick with that one, and leave the Freeads and For Sale section alone. And Ignore that Jimmy bloke who says it has to be an HW100 and then.... -
Hw97???
PeskyWabbits replied to Furrosious ferreter's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
Sorry, just read your original post again. I think it is probably a 'bitsa', as in made up from bits of other guns. Not a bad thing, just depends on your take. And an avenue you have joined with the non-original stock. The odd thing though is your serial number. My Hw35 has it stamped on the barrel and I thought this was the same with Hw97s too. So why would your early model barrel have a later model serial number? -
Hw97???
PeskyWabbits replied to Furrosious ferreter's topic in Rifle Reviews, Technical Help and Tips
There are a couple of posts on other Forums about the early Hw97 differences http://www.airgunbbs.com/showthread.php?590976-Difference-HW97-mk1-and-mk2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GNVs_oddB0g Guessing as yours had been refurb'ed it won't have the original - gasp - square spring -
What a day to have a birthday, the world celebrates it (except maybe China). There is so much to choose from. Good luck

This one is mine. A bit on the small side. Built as a pig sty. One side is full of useful stuff (old crap) and the other is where everything happens. These pictures show it as really untidy but I struggle with the small size of it. It looks much better now. I have power and lighting. A big bench (my old kitchen table) with a substantial vice on it.
