All depends on your time constraints really daughter has places to be and people to meet (boats being sold )so on quite a tight schedule but generally people just choose a loop that takes roughly how long they have to spare from here a typical loop journey would be about a fortnight up the Severn round canals and back down the Avon and some people just keep on going and have no home base daughters here at the moment lol

Forgive my ignorance mate, but how much planning does a trip like this take ? Accessibility , locks, moorings , etc, or is it as simple as having a map of canals and rivers and setting off ? Looks like a great adventure without leaving the UK ! Cheers.
