Everytime weve gone smashing into countries, Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria etc the outcome is severe distabilsation and swathes of migrants fleeing ended up in Europe, this war will be no different, but the hatred towards west could be bigger than anything weve seen... I think we need to realise there is the start of a shift in power, Starmer visited China not so long ago and started the process of decent trade agreements, China could be the biggest winner from this war eventually... I think everyone gets a bit hysterical saying would you rather live under Chinese rule or US rule, that ain't happening, you haven't exactly got to pick a side, yet, perhaps Starmer is looking at the longer term.in this one? this is a money war and securing rights to oil.. im not saying Iran are good or bad, im not saying we shouldn't keep strong relationships with the US, but Trump is not helping himself either, he is constantly threatening Nato like a child that isn't getting his own way, the plays for Greenland, lots of derogatory comments about the UK, including off comments about our involvement in Afghanistan, and our troops involvement. I was quite a Trump admirer, I liked his straight talking and at least he stuck his colours to the mast, but there are a lot of things hes said and threatened recently that has made me take a step back and think, is he just a nutter like some African war lord! It’s a real simple decision for Starmer because none of his voter base want it, he looks principled at a time when he’s 20 u-turns deep. The yanks started a war unilaterally, have spent the last several years telling us how weak we are, after 20 yrs of ME clusterfucks and now expect us to wade in with them. Even I find that outrageous. Add to that the fact that our carriers have no real standoff offensive weapons right now because of Lockheed continually delaying the integration of our weapons to the UK lightening force. Oh and we’re one deep in absolutely every platform, we have no ability to take losses. Get the RN back to fighting weight, realistically 2-3x growth in hull numbers with stores to sustain fighting and I would probably have a different view. We absolutely should be front and centre in protecting such a vital trade route, but we haven’t the tools right now. I hope the entire nation is embarrassed! Let’s not forget the yanks didn't exactly steam to our aid in 1982 either, a wholly more legitimate war than this. Which in the end only made the glory for our forces greater. What if he’s showing that Europe can’t be trusted to step up and if so, why should America fund NATO and defend Europe at great expense when they won’t step up to the plate ? He made a point of saying yesterday that the US has 45.000troops in Germany. He doesn’t need a few mine sweepers from us but would like them as a show of willing and unity. Politically he also needs them to show the American people that it’s not just America and Isreal going at it alone. Maybe a prelude to pulling out of NATO ? Who knows ? If he did lose a ship there then I think US public would turn against Trump big time. But if he can get UK/Nato ships to go in and they lose Navy ship he could just say they were not up to the job. A lucky ballistic missile or a sneaky UUV sinking a warship would be politically catastrophic, and potentially the turning point for completely dragging the US into a long war.
