They would be if the parents were pedigree deerhound and pedigree greyhound, but neither are. As a guess,I would reckon 75% of lurcher pups are not as they are described . Buyer beware! https://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classifieds/4ratffjhz-first-cross-deerhound-x-greyhound-whitland/ The comment “ I’ve had the line four generations” kind of gives the game away. I sometimes see the description “ 1st cross, second generation” but is that a first cross or a second cross ? If I mated my first cross deer/grey to another first cross deer/grey I’d refer to them as second cross. Would the second cross have the hybrid vigour of the first cross ? First crosses generally throw very true to type as in colour, coat, size etc. Not so the second cross. Just my take on it Cheers. Edited 22 hours ago by chartpolski 2 Quote Link to post

( Get the violin out, you want rid of a fuckwit dog.) My son has developed a sudden allergy. ( my arse) I've been given more hours at work ( aye right) I've broken my leg/ foot/ bad back/ nervous breakdown ( bollocks) I'm downsizing my pack ( this little shit is useless and falls out with other dogs) My partner has left me and it was his/ her dog ( no wonder, he/she was fed up with the dog shiting and pissing all over the house.) Perfect dog, he does have a little separation anxiety ( twat howls and destroys furniture when I'm out.) 2 Quote Link to post
The drover 1,692
Young lad up here thinking of breeding his pure deer. That's done bits and bobs . I've advised him to go coursing grey. So might be a little of genuine first crosses coming soon Quote Link to post

Doesn't claim to have a world beater. Buts puts a bit in front of her. An honest lad. Few lads trying to take the piss in the past. He's not so green now. Lad loves deerhounds. I've told him he has a better chance of longevity and robustness going coursing grey Quote Link to post

A very keen lad .He asked my advice about breeding his deerhound and I have him my opinion for what it’s worth. Ive seen vids of it on deer and its hearts in it but it needs speed putting in, like most deerhounds really. At least he’s out with it giving it a go Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post

I prefer genuine first cross, you can almost guarantee what you’ll get. I don’t know if Platts dogs are tested , I’ve never seen one run. I know he bought two deerhounds off my mate that had Doxhope breeding in them. To be honest, I’ve never heard any one say Platts dogs are great or shite, but I laugh at this “English Deerhound” nonsense, it’s just a sales pitch, lads have been using deer/grey crosses up here before I was born, The Slack’s and Doherty were winning comps with them before the saluki cross came popular. Its all down to personal preference Cheers. Quote Link to post
