Loads in Canterbury and like a few have said some of them are proffesional beggars.I had to explain that to my daughter a while back as she's really kind hearted and wanted to give them all some money untill I showed her that at least 3 of them had the exact same signs saying cold and hungry printed onto cardboard.Theres a youngish white english girl who looks like she's had it rough who sits drawing lovely pictures that we always give a couple of quid and an oldish black lady with obvious mental health issues who sleeps rough in the town but is no problem to anyone and is always reading her bible.Weve seen horrible little c**ts giving her a hard time and once she was upset coz they'd took her bible so we took her to Waterstones and bought her a new fancy one and we always buy her something to eat which she's always appreciative for.Even if we see her asleep we'll get her her favourite wrap and a milkshake and leave it next to her.Funny enough I've never actually seen either of them actually asking anyone for money.

I don’t honestly mind giving them the odd tenner or even a score, even if they gonna drink it or take it in drug form, it stops me doing the same haha no seriously tho it’s there choice, an if you think sat without food is bad, imagine sat without food whilst clucking for a bevvy or a hit, I have known a few folk fall on there arse through diff situations so know how easy it can come to us, I don’t give any foreigners money tho, unless they asked for a plane ticket home haha an I don’t ever give anybody nowt without  stopping an spending 5-10 mins chatting to them, prob for my own selfish self haha as walking away from folk like that always reminds me how lucky I am and have got it, will I fcuk donate to charity tho, it’s all a scam I reckon, even the food banks an that all open now, look at some the motors pulling up outside them haha

That’s it mate least they can get a kyp of a night I often sit at the kitchen table looking at the veiw thinking how lucky I am a lot the lads  I ran about with most you will no are pushing up the daisys….. do you remember gando sat in toon begging walked like he got a humph soon as he got off the bus wae enough to score he was straightened right up stick under his arm marching for a charge haha

Aye I can remember him haha I always think it would be waste of food cos if they sat busting for whatever it is the poor Cnut struggles with then a meal is prob the last thing they wait, but if I’m going in a shop an they’re outside an not just a chancer then I have offered

was a cafe here an ye could buy food in winter an stick receipt up on board an the few ( cos there ain’t many) homeless folk could take the receipt of the board an cash it in, I always added a meal deal or summat to it, them some Fcuking Karen started ranting on fb about it being a piss take, an the poor cnuts stopped using it

Been there and it's shit, shit like beyond wanting to wake up tomorrow but knowing you can't die because then your kids will always have a down and out junkie dad and your parent will have to bury you with the shame of it being their child no matter how old you are, that was 25 years ago and i'm fecking blessed to have survived it and be where i am today, forgiven and much loved. Big up to those who do stop and chat and believe me it can make a difference as there's not a lot to live for when your on your arse and a thank you from those who maybe cannot say what it means.. :victory:

Good post.

My brother in law was an alcoholic, he died of liver failure, leaving a widow and two young children.

My sister asked me to go with her to see the registrar for the death certificate. It had the cause of death as “ alcoholic liver failure”.

I asked the registrar to leave out “alcoholic “ and just say “liver failure” for the sake of his children, but he refused and said he had to record it exactly as the doctors said.

Instead of any fond memories they may have of their dad, he will always be remembered as an alcoholic.

Sad……

Cheers.

I always do, I’ll drop you a few quid, buy you something to eat, buy you a beer, but you have to talk to me and be a native, I don’t care if you are a piss head, on the gear or just down on your luck. I got this from my old man, he would often help a few of my mates out that had been kicked out of home when we were kids, we often had someone sleeping on the sofa, no body fu*ked with my dad so they knew what was expected of them if they wanted a roof over their head and a feed, my missus used to go mad with me because if we were in town and she was in a shop she’d often come out and find me sat with someone on the streets, now she’ll buy them something to eat or drop them a couple of quid

Charity starts at home for me these days I used to be the type that would always put my hand in my pocket and do my part or try and help out but most of the time these people that are homeless by choice or have addictions to alcohol smack or crack and it’s there choice there homeless I wouldn’t help these sort out or these Romanian c**ts that beg my old towns full of beggars smack heads and crack heads I avoid the place like the plague only adventure in to the town once a year even then I moan I want out the shit hole but don’t get me wrong if I see someone who’s genuinely on hard times I’d help out they’d not go hungry in my company but tend to be a family first guy these days

Read this with a little bit of interest. Mother suggested I leave home as I had just clattered the old man with a garden spade. Bit of a problem as I was 15 and had not a clue. I was on a bus in Lauder, Scottish Borders, heading to somewhere called Peterborough with £18 Scottish pounds to go on with. Did end up getting there but what next? Anyway, had a vague idea of a guy living in Northampton so decided to hitch it there and try to find him. Got there and booked into the YMCA in Cheyne walk. £6 for a room per week. Went to the nearest local and got into a scrap with the bar person because of Scottish currency. Locals got on my side and I ended up employed the following Monday. Now it’s fair to say I’ve never asked anyone for anything and ended up, doing what I did,all over the world. I’ve truly earned my keep and live very comfortably. Going back to the original question my answer would be a big fat NO. You need to get out there and earn it. Jok.

Very seldom have I give them money. One of their favourite tricks is standing in car parks and "helping" people with their tickets. If I was down and out I wouldn't expect help of members of the public, harsh but that's the reality.

I get it but no one chooses to be totaly homeless with a habit, only mates you have are other homeless addicts and you own nothing. Doing a rattle or cold turkey needs a partly furnished room to do it in as there's times when you might shit yourself or spend many nights climbing the walls aching like you have never ached before, sweating and stinking and all being done inside a grotty sleeping bag under a bridge or in a back door way. It ain't going to happen mate and it's easier to keep your habit going. I used to sell the big issue mostly to support my habit and on the whole my habit cost just a tenner a day as i couldn't afford a bigger one and i was careful in always trying to keep a bit for the morning so i could get up and get to it,a poxy tenner and maybe if i was lucky i'd get a drop of a few quid extra to get some food but i did get fed by folks out of gregs and such like, but my gear came before food as without i could not function, without food i was just hungry.I ain't after a pat on the back for sorting my shit out as i was a total knobhead getting a habit in the first place but just trying to put it from the side of the man sat with feck all but his habit...
