( it was mentioned in my best man's speech at my wedding ha , Miss the old whippet too nice pic bud....years ago i had a funny encounter with a 3 wheeled robin reliant....i was driving down a narrow road when i saw a reliant coming towards me, well, it was coming quite fast for the width of the road, i thought he was going to slow down...but, no....i moved over up on the grass verge with just enough room for him to pass (i had no choice).....he shot past me (at the same speed)....but his rear wheel dropped into a rut on the side of the road.....well,...that was it...when i looked in my side mirror his car had flipped on it`s side...lol there was loads of sparks coming of his door handle and rocking from front to back.....lol it looked like it was sliding on it`s side for ages....(but it wasn`t in reality)....then, just as it was slowing down and coming to a stop, it flipped back on all three wheels and off he when....lol he didn`t even get out to check the side of his car....he just picked a gear and broom brooommm away he went lol lol lol.....

Pardus 1,556
Can some cars be prone to eating through water pumps? I've had mine changed twice within the last 4 years and something has gone Pete Tong today. Is it just pure bad luck or can it be a symptom of something else?

The wrong antifreeze/coolant in a car can cause problems .. Or just using a cheap water pump when replacing it , you get what you pay for with water pumps .

To add to Chid`s post incorrectly tensioned drive belt be it cam belt or auxilliary belt can cause short pump life, what car is it?

neil82 1,087
Only thing I used to see on VW pumps is the stupid plastic impeller working loose, if it`s leaking then it`s shit quality or over tensioning, was the timing belt changed each time?

Pardus 1,556
Wasn't the water pump, it was the thermostat that wasn't opening.
