Welsh_red 5,043
It was life changing for my dad having grandkids . Before my kids were born he was slowly turning into a miserable old b*****d . Years of recovery from a broken back after falling through a loft hatch in work , the realisation his retirement wouldn't be the free time to do what he always wanted that he had planned because of his back etc . Grandkids came along and it was as if life was breathed into him. If he didn't see them for 3 or 4 days my mum would message " could you bring the kids around for a hour or so if you've got time, your dad's getting cranky not seing them " He made blow darts for them , used to have a ready supply of balloons by his seat in his desk to blow up for them and let them kick around and pop , he had what was like a old fashioned sweet shop by his seat aswell in glass pots to offer out whenever the kids wanted them The moment I realised how much my kids meant to to him was during covid . He was on the vulnerable people's list because of his lifelong smoking and lung problems . We all followed the rules . Us as a family (me , Mrs & kids) had horses outside of the town so every day we were up the horse yard for 2/3 hours each day just to get out of the house . My dad was going stir crazy in the house so we got my mum to bring him up to the yard just to watch the kids . We didn't tell the kids because we knew they wouldn't be able to help going to cuddle grandad or jump on him and didn't want to pass covid on if one of us had it (I know how silly this sounds now) He stood up a little hill leaning on a gate just watching the kids from a distance run around with sticks , playing football , just being boisterous kids . I slipped away from the kids and went up to see him . Miserable cranky old f****r just leaning there with a Cheshire cat smile just having the time of his life watching the kids being kids . If I dint know better I swear he was welling up 10

A terrier of course.lol.I had to remind my daughter in the hospital that the only reason I have any decent terriers was because an old man gifted her a pup when she was 1 year old. I should be able to give my granddaughter a great great niece of the same pup my daughter was gifted next fall.Having grown up with terriers my daughter isnt as happy about it as I am. 3

I had a bit of stunning news yesterday,I am going to be a grandfather,it was totally unexpected, good news though but it still hasnt sank in properly. The child will be born in florida,an American citizen, its like winning the lottery of life for a child, not a subject but a citizen, land of the free home of the brave citizen.

Thanks mate,I don't even feel old enough, but what a great place for a family line to continue, the USA,I have just been for a walk watching thousands of geese migrating and wondering what sort of life the child will have and the things it will see and do in its future, incredible. People pay fortunes to have a child in the states for citizenship,Chinese have maternity hotels for birthright citizenship at $50k a pop,my grandchild is getting it for free,I am still processing the news truth be told, but its all good.
