I had a really interesting evening caught all these birds in the app also a common nighthawk never had one of them before and a rare according to the app common firecrest, also see a green woodpecker

People on the meateater podcast have been raving about it . You hold your phone out with the app open and recording and it will tell you every bird noise around you and identify each bird . If theirs

We are currently working on a very old property ,flag stone courtyard and ashlar walls .The owner said he had a few house martins arrive and so I suggested putting down a bag of top soil suitably damp

Surprised the song thrush has not come up mate all the birds that's come up on yours have come up on mine in local woods. Still not heard a cuckoo probably be another year i don't hear one.

Not seen a thrush around the village in years someone did post a pic of one on fb not to far away .funny thing was as I was walking off down the road towards the village I could of sworn I heard a cuckoo in the distance ? I have heard one by the village school years ago and did jump the field gate and walk up the field next to the school and was lucky enough to see it fly off . Incidentally it’s same field I heard a corncrake in many years ago .

Don’t see the snails smashed up any more either ,only time I seen that is on portland and I don’t think it was thrush activity  as they were scattered .

We heard the first one one Saturday.

Weirdly,  we also heard a tawny owl calling at midday , that was a first for me.

No expert but I do enjoy the calls of the various birds, and particularly songbirds. Think I posted on another thread that the song thrush is maybe my favourite of them all. Other favourites include:

A robin singing solo on a dark winter morning, weeks before the other birds have even thought about spring, but brings a bit of hope that it’s on its way.

A Skylark in a field on a hot cloudless summers day, where there’s that hum of insect life all about you, and you have to squint up into the bright blue to try and spot the lark, a mere speck in the sky.

The ‘twittering’ sound of swallows as they flit in, out and around a barn or old farm building. Or the screaming of swifts around the old factory buildings opposite where I grew up. I miss them.

A special treat for me in the long days of summer is sitting quietly out the back just as the light fades with a beer in hand listening to a blackbird sing from the top of my birch tree, and watching the first bats flitting around hoovering up the midges. A simple but absolutely priceless pleasure.

What’s yours?

Skylarks do it for me, an I’m lucky to  literally be  mere few yards away from lovely big arable land that holds a decent amount of them, jist says summer is proper underway when I hear it 👍

Just back from Mull and saw 2 cuckoo's there, tons of willow warblers, goldcrest and siskin too. Highlight was whitetail eagles up close a few times around the cottage, made the ravens harassing them look small!

Fantastic little birds. Always a joy when I get them in the garden. Trees outside my work are full of them, even in the last week. I thought they’d all be paired up and doing their own thing by now.
