Have to say i think you lads are being a bit unfair with Mchull here i mean nobody go's out to get caught at anything you could have a dust up in your local boozer and end up with a 10 stretch over a fraction of a second reaction so does that mean everyone should back down in a confrontation ?

It could be anything money or pleasure nobody breaks the law with the intention of getting caught and none of us are whiter than white i think yous are going a bit over the top with the lad myself.

doesn’t bother me gnash words from lads on a computer

same lads won’t hunt for the consequences have you believe they would go down to knock mens doors to get money back if they was had off ? you’d be getting more then 6 month just for the affray shouting and arguing in the street never mind once you have to do something mental

nothing better then out in the country walking with the dogs when things are on your mind helped me threw some bad times ?

Must admit i read posts like Francies posts above and others and while i wholeheartedly agree with the content it amazes me that so few people are actually willing to stand up and address why this is

Lol... Fella no one's giving up. Just it's 2023 I've been defending terrier work at the top in Ireland for over 10 years... I still hunt at least twice a week... But what is happening is a major

I get that but to jeopardise your freedom over a hobby of chasing big rabbits where it’s grown beyond the pale with the risk being unpalatable, there’s lads being lifted and fined where the evidence is completely without any police interaction in the event . I know if a case where a lad was seen walking a field , that was the entire evidence . He was charged and fined , no footage , no dead hare , just a testimony .

he runs round hull , an area with a Gallelio team . It’s a matter of time when he comes unstuck .

I first followed hounds aged 13 and have hunted, shot or fished at least once a week since then. Just over 30 years. I've been in hunt service, been a keeper, hunted with 40 odd packs of hounds (I think, will count my list later).

Think over the last 6 months it's more or less ended for me. Spent my entire life fighting for fieldsports in many many ways. Just can't do it anymore. Good mates all left hunt service recently, farm I grew up on built on, pack I worked for given up, lost all local hunting on water board land where I grew up.

My eldest lad has no interest, youngest is showing a bit of interest but I think I'll let it fizzle out and not push it.

No foxes to ground because of gun men, no rabbits to start a dog, local packs all but finished, no point keeping ferrets.

Good luck to those that carry on?. I'm about finished I reckon

Pretty much some's up my experience, Eldest shoots and goes out with his mates hawk now and again the youngest who was brought up with, dogs, ferrets, shooting, Hounds and beagles, now shows no interest what so ever. Local pack hounded into oblivion by anti`s and the resulting infighting, Land that has been my local hunting grounds for years sold to the developers. Something like 7000 odd houses planned for the local area. This is a village mind with 6 roads, only 2 of which actually don't end in dead ends. No rabbits left, fox's hammered by the thermal brigade, All i do now is a little squirrel control with a bog standard air rifle and a little fishing. Gone are the days of dead fox`s being placed on the door step of the local Pub on a Sunday dinnertime so the farmers knew the lads had been out with the terriers, shot guns leaning up the walls in the Pub, In fact even the pub has closed and is going to knocked down to become houses.

The lad who had all his dogs lifted a few years ago and we raised money towards his solicitors fees, The only evidence against him was a picture of him and his dogs in Wales. yet they tried to charge with digging badgers in an unknown area in Wales.

When i say charge, i actually mean the RSPCA tried to bring a private prosecution against him, That's another little ploy. I believe i am right in this but if the police charge you under the hunting act 2004 then you will be entitled to legal aid but invariably its the RSPCA who take you to court and that means no legal aid, The lad who i am on about faced a kennelling bill from the RSPCA of around £11,000, They told him if he pleaded guilty before trial they would waiver that bill. So all in all it can get very expensive, very quickly.

I couldnt agree more but come on mate how many of us havent done silly risky things for relatively little reward at times.....its whatever floats your boat i suppose but that whole " sensible " head doesnt fit everybody every time you know that.....what a boring life it would be if nobody took risks i just dont think theres any moral high ground about your silly/risky behaviour being worse than my silly/risky behaviour its just fellas doing what fellas do in my opinion.

@mC Hull.So are your honestly saying that getting banged up over a poxy animal and not seeing your family everyday wiuldnt bother you?Have you ever spent any time in the shovel?

That's one reason why I let my digging dogs go...Im no stranger to  doing bird, but I'm not 20 anymore, and  too many folks rely on me these days...I've a young daughter to think of,few yrs left on the mortgage ,my family needs me round...plus I think  would die of  shame if I got a lifetime dog ban?

The world is changing. I know lads who up until covid would walk the moors regularly after all sorts of game.  But since covid those moors were you could get lost are so busy with people taking pictures of every bit of wildlife they can find with long range cameras. Or flying there drones around it ain’t worth the hassle.

catching dog lads is a massive easy win for the cozzers , good publicity and the crimes can be used to gain budgets for the wildlife specialist units

I dont know what its like now but back 20 odd years ago the RSPCA made no secret about the way they would ask a court to fine those capable of paying in order to cover prosecution costs and ultimately gain free publicity aimed at little old ladies who would see what a wonderful job they do against the evil dog fighters and suchlike......a lad close to me who was a single dad at the time and clearly couldnt pay the fine got 4 months in nick whereas his 2 co defendants on exactly the same charges both got 5k fines as they both had decent jobs.
