Putting aside emotion for a minute, it’s easy to sit here and say “I’d go charging single handed into a situation where a bloke has an AR15 while I myself am armed with nothing but a Glock and a big hat !”

Them officers have families and kids at home, they don’t want to get wasted.

I think its Completely logical that they waited for people with the right kit to turn up.

As I have said all along, the blame will chucked in all sorts of directions except where the root of the problem actually lays.

Nah sorry pal I'm not having that. These aren't just ordinary blokes on the street if they're not up for putting themselves in harms way to protect the public then they're in the wrong line of work simple as that.

Incase anyone missed it the man that killed the school shooter in Texas wasn't even an on duty officer! It was a parent and spouse of a 4th grade teacher, he just happened to be a border patrol a

There’s putting yourself in harms way and there’s committing suicide !

Going up against an AR15 armed with nothing but a pistol I suspect is like taking a gat gun to war ?

They didn't even get out of the way and let the feds do their job when they turned up FFS. Can't see how they can try and spin this as anything other than a monumental cock up by the local police

16,000 population in Uvalde, not a huge place, more like a small town, where we're the heavily armed SWAT team who were au fait with the schools internal layout?

As I say, I was only something that crossed my mind.

Im sure I’m Bidens paradise every f****r and his dog will be lining up to bash the police….it’s like a national sport over there at the moment by the looks.

I think someone mentioned training and there is not a standardised high quality programmed across the states ?……that I can agree is something that needs sorted.

America can send 40 billion to Ukraine ,but can't provide proper well trained security for there schools .  If they had a properly trained security officer at that school , the shooter would have being dealt in a efficient way and those people saved .

I think that’s totally fair. But it should be considered one of ‘the problems’, if it is indeed the case. Seems reasonable as I say.

Now forward thinking leaders need to explore ‘solutions’. Issuing suitable weapons and kit to these regular cops, seconding SWAT officers to these forces, training these regular LEOs in special tactics…. These aren’t educated suggestions, I have no place advising strategy! Just examples.

My point really, and I encounter this a lot in my profession. I’m hearing problems and I’m hearing partisan ‘going nowhere’ solutions. Where are the leaders that want to get shit done?

Aye one of the big problems with policing in the states is how fragmented it is, there's no central body setting training standards etc it's left up to individual towns and counties to set standards and budgets so you end up with vastly different standards of policing across relatively small geographic areas depending on local politics etc.

The difference in standards between federal forces and local police is huge, if they could just get all local officers up to the standard of the feds we wouldn't see half the issues with policing in the states IMO

They have a specialist SWAT team in a place with a population 1/3 larger than the village I was brought up in.

But SWAT are a separate unit right? It’s no good having them if they aren’t available when needed. As I said, problems need to be identified and solutions found. If the regular cops are always first on the scene and there’s no time to wait for specialists then the solution has to be focussed on improving the capability of those first responders.

By the sounds of it there are plenty of problems.

Correct ?a village with 16000 inhabitants is tiny, if they couldn't mobilise in the 40 minutes to an hour the kid was shooting up the school it is indeed no good having them, they look cool as f**k in the insta pic though, but as much use as a chocolate fireguard in the congo when needed.

Texas police officials are now admitting it was the wrong decision to wait before storming the school, no shit sherlock, the copper taking the press conference looks a real operator, cowboy hat, aviator shades, even chewing gum, but he had a bit of a meltdown questions coming at all angles.

What a shit fest, the sheriff dept have retracted the original statement that an officer was injured by the shooter as the shooter made his way to the school, the officer tripped, facts get distorted when people are under stress (sheriff, who looks as if he is about to cry, said that).

The feds turned up and were ready to breach the classroom but the local police held them back for an hour while they stood at the door listening to him kill the kids
