Probably different eras and chicken tikka did not exist then. One of my 1st jobs was assisting an uncle who worked as driver/minder for lasses performing their acts in clubs. He was ex miner but clever and made a bit and got out. A very competent boxer and ended up running a club teaching lads. Being an ex pitman his back was f****d and that's where I came in.

The girls would be picked at their home and dropped off safe and sound after the gig. My job would be to carry their bag. 

My uncle was cool as f**k, hard as nails, very rarely got involved on the day. Someone throwing a pint over a girl would get him involved.

Do you know what, I've never really had a problem with the police….they were horrible b*****ds because they were dealing with horrible b*****ds.

Everyone knew the rules of the game.

Even your Bobby on the beat, they are by and large dealing with someone who has done something…..so, no, not a problem with them types at all.

Traffic cozzers and those gonks who stand 30 handed at roadside checkpoint are sad c**ts but still by and large they get to see their share of the horrible things.

But traffic wardens, bailiffs, “civil enforcement officers”……all the lowest of the low, hurting ordinary people who’s circumstances they have no idea about and they dont care either…..absolute f***ing vermin !

Please don’t get me started on the police/gardai mother of god. I’ve had some long running hateful relationships in my life but the one with the law has never died down in all the years. I have one particular story I won’t get into involving my son when he was 14/15 he was involved in something with the son of a local garda both were caught boys being boys but my lad ended up doing 8 months in St Patrick’s and I’ll leave you guess what the gardas son got. Hate doesn’t even nearly cover it

When I was an apprentice with British Engines  back in the late 60’s I did a lot of on board ship work on the Tyne and North Shields and also did some time at South Shields Marine Tech.

Worked at the Naval Yard, Swans, Vickers, etc and did a bit for Rutherford Bros on Ben Line ships on the fish quay at shields. 
It was a bustling place , all fish markets and fish processing, kipper smokers and fishing boats.

Last time I was there it’s all gone, now it’s yuppie restaurants and bars. It’s a different world…..

I think The Low Lights and the Dolphin pubs are the only things left of the past.
