Why spend £100 BILLION on making the journey from London to Birmingham 20 minutes quicker ?

we all know that it won't be any quicker in reality...... leaves on the line, wrong kind of snow, etc, etc, we've heard it all before, and we know from previous mega projects, the costs will spiral out of control !

Even if it works, will it really benefit a businessman who has spent hours flying in from Japan, the U.S. Australia, and has probably spent the night in London anyway ?

What about conference calls, the Internet ? Do people REALLY need to get on a train from London to Brum to clinch a deal ?

Some VERY rich people are going to get even richer on this one !
