There's nothing I hate seeing more in a lurcher than a dog takin stick it doesn't need to, if they aren't getting the job done sharpesh and are trying to kill em with their first hold they're worse than useless in my eyes. 

That's your opinion mate like I said in my opinion get a lurcher that you can lamp rabbits and have a spin of a hare with if your not bothered about what the dog does to kill game that bite back i just don't think half a game bred dog shouldn't look for hold at first sight

It might be it's preferred style though. 

You do know that even gamedogs have their preferred style.

Thats another strange statement, I'm very bothered about how my dogs kill, I've owned and been around enough first xs of both types to know exactly how a goodun gets the job done and it ain't standing getting ate for 5 minutes.

Yeah I understand that all dogs have style but I'm talking about if it has the choice and rather find a throat hold i wouldn't be happy with that dog tbh seen loads of foxes get away and if the dog hit cover hard enough and grabbed them anywhere a lot of them foxes would of been killed but the dogs running them took too much too soon and started to not like the sharp end.

Yeah I agree with you there, if a dog looks reluctant to strike and take hold as if to want to pick a hold then I'd be questioning what it's made of.

A good one will strike them anywhere and literally throw themselves at them but surely that's a whole different thing. 

Anyway I think we'd agree more than we'd disagree on the matter so no point in any back and forth.

The 1 thing that I've come to realise in my time of running bullxs and such like breeds  is they aren't machines  I think every dog has it's own styles and ways of getting the job done and let's be honest end result is if the dogs done it's job then that's it job done

I think there’s a big difference between a dog that simply gets the job done and a dog that gets the job done well. As dogmandont said a good one will make it look easy. Who wants to see a lurcher just grab and hold a fox and take punishment for ten fuc*king minutes then blow out it’s arse and back into the van. Head like a balloon for a week then and nights sitting in the pen recovering while a good dog would be out the following night again...I know which dog I would rather have. What’s the point in having a big strongly bred lurcher if it struggles to kill a fox the same way a little 22” yoke would f**k me... as been said before there’s dogs that will take a fox and then there’s fox dogs.

Cha cha slide is better I'l be honest ive always been a fan of a smaller type of bullx I e half xs or bully whippet types I have owned dogs with wheaton in in the past but I've always stuck to me bull types the bitch I've got now is a big girl 28tts can't remember her weight to be honest but once she gets hold of most things it's not long til the fat lady sings but it has been a rocky road at time but she's done well I'm happy with her

It's what ever keeps a man happy I suppose, I hear lads saying they love to see a good scrap between their lurcher and a fox, the more marked up their dog is the happier they are, for me it's the total opposite. Nice to see a lurcher that knows the sweet spot and kills quick, nothing worse than an arse grabber. Even the best of dogs get caught every now and then trying to get to the sweet spot. A good fox dog will be able to kill 5, 6 or 7 foxes a week. Each to their own tho, as I said whatever keeps a man happy.
