No biters just facts , good and bad in everything , I've kept what people called ' great lines of collie lurchers' and they weren't so great at all , same as whippets , as I said good and bad in every

Pure whippet 14 year old only ever run on hard ground (coz thats all we have) retired this year that said he is WELL past his best (22tts) never seen a lurcher beat him over 30 yards no chance the other dog is 3/4 whippet 1/4 deerhound x grey pup. Nothing wrong with pure whippets thats for sure if you get the type right!6moP975.jpgVdzjAUO.jpg

I was always firmly in the pro-cross-bred camp until my brother bought a pure whippet. He now has three and is constantly raving about them. I can't imagine ever turning my back on my kelpies but I have to admit I find myself tempted every time I read one of these whippet threads.

Edited to add I fully agree with the above comments re breeding. While I'd always favour a worker x worker mating (whether lurcher, sheepdog or whippet) I've come to realize, thanks to all the kelpie research I've done, that genetics is a hell of a lot more important than I previously gave it credit for.

The holy grail for me is small tough lurcher that is fast and as nibble as whippet or whippet greyhound on rabbits as that's all I do now......but at only 3 year old and still perfect feet after thousands of rabbits I still don't know if she's the holy grail as still another 3 or 4 seasons to go

One thing do know she can certainly sprint lol if kept fitt

Like me Trev... always whippet greys most my life since 5 year of age...some lurcher that came and went...it wasn't till I started adding the racing whip greyhounds in mix the lurchers stayed for what I needed...as for small whippet breed dogs for rabbits the whippet on its own or in a mix has to be there in breeding to make the perfect biddable rabbiting dog

Another good video Trev....this is my late whippet greyhound I used for hunting she kill herself last season a 5year old...she wasn't the best but I remember her from saving my ass and other dogs on walk from pasteing from on Alstion attack and Staffordshire dog attacks on two different occasions..she took no shit off any dog sorely missed

She was a little madam loved her food but hated arrgressive dogs more
