Blackbriar 8,569
The good lady BB has been feeding a baby hedgehog for a day or three, in the garden, just leaving water and a bit of dog food out for it. Yesterday morning, she found it cold and very weak, on the path. At first , she thought it was dead, but it began to move as it warmed up in her hands. She couldn't leave it to die, so it's residing in a small cage on top of the freezer. She feeding a small amount of goats milk, mashed up puppy food and mealworms. She heats up one of those wheat bag things to keep it warm, and it seems to be doing OK, though it's only around 4 inches long, so it's probably only a few weeks old. I've done the usual Google-ing, but would appreciate advice from anyone who's had experience of rearing and releasing - she doesnt want to take it to a rescue centre, if she can do it herself...... J Darcy 5,871
If its that small it won't make the weight for hibernation I shouldn't think. For accurate knowledge I would contact the hedgehog charities.....they will take it and give it the best chance of surviving...IMO>... nice to see...

northern lad 2,292
I reared a youngster a few yrs back, switch to cat food (think its higher protein) I used lactol free milk, not sure if goats milk is,the thing was smaller than a tennis ball when I found it and was way over the weight to release it.Kept it in an empty chicken run when it was a bit bigger, used to grub round all night but never saw it once inthe day ATB with it Dave
