And I'm sorry I singlehandedly ruined boxing. I don't quite understand how I did it but, to keep the peace, I'm sorry anyway. Just two corrections. Ali was not a draft dodger. He refused to go to war and said :"I ain't going, just take me to jail". That's a refuser, an objector. He was prepared to take the consequences for his beliefs. His refusal was broadcast in the open for all to see. As for his racism , he believed blacks should only have sex with each other and also whites should also only have sex with each other. That's not racism. It's a personal opinion. A draft dodger is somebody like your hero Trump, who claimed his bone spurs were so painful that he couldn't possibly fight on a battlefield. Presumbly his stance was,' I'd love to do my bit. But the pain is too great.' So whilst his compatriots went to war, he was flying on Epstein's jet. That's sly, slimy and cowardly. Incidentally ,Trump is a true racist. He was forced by a court ruling to let apartments to blacks. Previously he had refused. I repeat, for me and hundreds of thousands of lads like me, Ali was a role model. In the 60s, I was in a residential school for bad boys and just about every lad had a home inked tattoo of Ali. Which was incredible given the state of race relations at the time. When we shadow boxed or sparred we shouted "what's my name?" "Whats my name ?" Almost in his honour. We all loved him. He stuck it to the authorities and showed no fear . He kind of spoke for us. Many of my generation were in tears when he died. He was the greatest. Tbh, I was upset when Joe Frazier died too. He was another role model for us, who never left anything in the ring. A true warrior. Shame we are left with clowns like the Furys now. NEWKID 30,050 Posted Friday at 20:48 Report Share Posted Friday at 20:48 I was listening to Steve Bunce earlier, discussing the John Fury shit, and he put that to bed nicely. But more interestingly (for me) was hos virw on the current boxing scene, he stated that it is the best irs ever been and a month worth of fights now is better than a years worth in the 70s and 80s... his point was there's are over 2000 pro boxers now and back in the 70s there was 650 or so... so we are getting more fights than ever... he said he'd watched all these eras first hand and the best is now... I was born 76 so started my interest in the mid 80s, loved Hagler, named my first dog after him.. then Tyson late 80s into the 90s, obviously the middleweight then Benn, Eubank, Watson etc... heavies we're good with Bowe, Lewis, Holyfiekd, Tyson etc...and on it went... I have rose tinted glasses, I get exited at the thought of Prince Naseem walk out and his style, the massive stadium fights of Been v Eubank or Bruno beating Mcall, Tyson destroying Berbick, I was probably 12 or so and remember it vividly...but... are we not seeing some truly great fighters now as well.. Inoue, Crawford, Cannelo, Bertibiev, Bivol, Usyk, boots Ennis, Stevenson, Benavidez, Opetai... There's loads of good fights around those lower weights, but everyone looks at Furys antics abd judges boxing on that. ... It will never be the same as it was, like everything else, because we were younger and excitable...and we remember it from those youthful eyes

A different perspective to my post. But it's always worthwhile reading sensible opinions. Edited Friday at 21:13 by jukel123

Ali is called the Greatest for a reason, and I don't think anyone will ever take that from him... im not one for trying to guess if a boxer from one era would beat another, the bottom line is he beat some of the hardest men to ever get in a ring, that era of Heavies was special and Ali was considered the best of the bunch.... I watched Cinderella Man, again, the other night, what a great story of battling through hardship to eventual success. I think boxing more than any other sport is littered with those types of stories.
downsouth 8,524 Posted yesterday at 08:50 Report Share Posted yesterday at 08:50 Connor Benn signed with Dana White after the way Eddie Hearne stood by him through his drug cheating scandal,What a scummy c**t.Still I suppose he knows hes never gunna win a proper world title all the time hes got a hole in his arse so hes gunna go off and try to win a silly Zuffa belt and claim it as a world title
