I would jump on this but I live in Spain now so I don't think it would be right. Someone who is capable of dealing with very senior people and articulated in their speech should get onboard this. It could also be a career for someone who really wants to get into this side of things

Driving things underground never achieves a fair solution to anything and the lacs are basically well organised gangs of thugs trying to impose their visions on a unsuspecting public , they resort to physical threats and violence, cause wilful damage to vehicles and property, intimidate people going about lawful activities and work, then distort the whole scenarios and events with the support of the RSPCA and in most cases the police by biased publicity and in most cases concocted and rehearsed presentations. Some lads do over step the mark from our side on occasion but these are a very small minority where as the hard core lacs and antis whilst giving of an air of respectability and concern are intent on destroying the very fabric of country life, they are against animal husbandry they are willing to put thousands of people involved in country pursuits,,and spin of industries out of work because they dont fit in with their 1984 vision of how life should be, They and their blinkered associates are criminalising thousands of genuine family people for following things and passions that mankind has done out of need and enjoyment for thousands of years,I genuinely believe now is a time and opportunity that will not manifest itself again in many of our lifetimes to preserve the right of future generations to enjoy the countryside in all its aspects.

I will travel where ever as I do for my hunting. Any lads willing to take an active part lets have names and suggestions for a initial meeting to formulate policy. Any lads already in groups . terriers, ferrets , birds etc talk with your reps about associate status for the association any one want to suggest possible names for the association, Time is our biggest enemy the rest we can control

 

I would be happy to give my time to discuss a way to move forward, we could do with a good group to meet and discuss the way to go about it. I'll travel any where if we are going to achieve something.

This is not the first time this has been looked into including the insurance side of it, there was a few of us on here who started to discuss it last year, it will be far more difficult than just producing a website, thats the easy part, getting all the clubs and associations out there to come on board would be near impossible.

Foreword

Throughout history the lurcher has been the working man’s best friend; providing him with meat during times of hardship and enjoyment through seeing the dog work in the field. In order to safeguard ourselves from those that oppose lurcherwork or bring it into disrepute we have drawn up a concise guide in the form of a code of conduct.

The Vision

That all who work Lurchers conduct themselves to the highest standards of sportsmanship and courtesy when in the field . Full respect should be given to the quarry, the dog and the countryside, encompassing the future of the working Lurcher

Introduction

The aim of this code of practice is to provide guidelines and assistance to newcomers and to act as a reminder to those with experience working their Lurchers for pest control and sport in the field.

We hope this code will provide our peers with an understanding as to how Lurcher work should be undertaken and help differentiate between those who work Lurchers responsibly and those who bring Lurcher work into disrepute. This document will help to counter the activities of those who oppose Lurcher work or who by their actions, or intentions would bring Lurcher work into disrepute.

The Code

The prime objective for properly conducted Lurcher work is to provide a humane, efficient and effective form of pest control which can also provide free range wild game for the food chain.

All quarry must be wild and treated with respect at all times. Be mindful that game is food. All freshly killed game should be handled in a way that ensures the meat is subsequently fit to eat.

Quarry should be humanely despatched as soon as it has been caught

Particular attention to welfare is suggested to ensure that the Lurchers welfare is kept to a high standard and to avoid any ill treatment or suffering. Lurchers should be physically and mentally conditioned to ensure their ability to work in the field.

It is recommended that only one Lurcher to be hunted on one quarry at a time

All land owners to be treated respectfully and their wishes followed at all times. All gates to be closed and care to be taken of fences, crops and property while working the land.

All Lurchers used in the field should be under control, stock broken and obedient to their owner’s commands

Lurchers should be inspected for good health and condition at regular intervals, paying particular attention to legs, feet and toes as theese could be overlooked. Veterinary advice should be sought immediately in all cases of serious injury.

Be aware that at all times you are an ambassador of Lurchers and their work, so please act with this in mind.

The Federation of Working Lurchers endorse Micro chipping to aid recovery should the Lurcher be stolen or lost during their work

Owners should consider suitable sporting insurance to cover their Lurchers and themselves when in the field.

Getting other associations to come on side will be easy compared to trying to get the labour members of parliament along with Sdp to change their policies which will be required to get any meaningful amendments and changes to the present legislation.. You dont go into battle half cocked or with an army of poorly prepared volunteers. The insurance is a personal choice for third party liability much the same as house insurance was going to say car but that is a legal requirement.
