Lamper,s Do It All Night

Recommended Posts

My granddad used to tell me what it was like pre-myxy. it always sounded like heaven to me.

Then again, when I tell the young lads today of how the rabbits were like when I was their age they think it sounds like heaven. This years been the best for a while, but they're still not like they were, and I doubt they ever will be.

The moons up and the cloud's vanished, not ideal for lamping tonight.....but if ya gotta go then ya gotta go..... :victory: :victory:

The trouble with nostalgia is; it ain't like it used to be....

Me and my mate popped out for a few runs last night, met at his place

couple of cups of tea and a bit of a chat only to go out side to get on our way

and noticed that haziness round the street lights, ol bullocks, i said,, its gonna turn

misty, but we set off all the same.

Anyway we go to this first place a bit of a walk to the fields so we hit the button on

the old 150, and low lying mist starting to creep across the field towards us. so straight back to the

motor deciding whether to call it a night or as you do,, try and think where we would get a run, what

with knowing it was going to be a wind free night to start with we were just going to do a couple of little spots

but now with the mist against us my mate said i know where we might get a couple of runs at some old park fields

so off we drove to this little place he knew, parked the motor up and down a bitta path turned lamp on and

there was a bit of mist but you could make out the rabbit to our left, he slipped his bitch she put it out he hedge

fun it past us and scooped it up in style, result.

So off we go to another part of this field on the side of park before we reached the gap in the hedge

he turned and said get your dog ready if any thing is out up this top end we will get a good run

as they have got to come back past us to reach their burrows,ok mate lamp on two rabbits at top

end slip the old dog he picks his target the chase is on, as my friend said the rabbit came past us and was

really going at a speed, being it was on very short grass tries to make its escape round a bush

but the dog pushed it out and with a strike picks up rabbit number 2.

Walked on a bit and there was a shoosh straight in font up against some chain link fence

my mate slipped his bitch the chase goes to our left then jinks and heads back past us

the old bitch puts a lightning dash of speed and throws herself at the fleeing bunny

grabs it rolls over a couple of times and rabbit kicks free to evade the jaws to live another day

best run of all,, well done old rabbit i said you deserved that.

So what we thought was going to be a bad night turned into a very enjoyable one

2 rabbits for the dogs, and not forgetting the one that got away, brilliant.

:hmm:You are living a hard old life there fellah....

Perhaps you might get a better deal, if instead of accepting vonga for your labours,..maybe try to do a deal/exchange/swap with the Butcher,...your fresh game,.. for his chickens, Sausages, whatever,.... :victory:

Anyway,.go careful now and good luck with your hunting...regards, Phil.

We only get £1 each hence why we eat everything I kill now for the trouble you have getting it.the wife makes game pies which we freeze and soups, broth and what ever we can make.

I was getting £1 a rabbit 30 YRS ago.. if every body that sells their rabbits all put the price up at once

you could get at least £2.50 a rabbit, they are worth that all day long to any restaurant, would you agree..
