Serious answer time.....

Do you know if the pond was used for fishing or just ornamental. Rudd aren't your typical ornamental species - go!den orfe, more likely.

Wife's ma has some in her pond and the do look like goldfish, I suppose.....

Look. They're rudd, Alright? I know what an orfe looks like. These are orange (like goldfish) as opposed to golden (like rudd) which is what put me off in the first place. Now Darcy has clarified that young rudd are orange, we're good.

Many years ago it used to be used for brown trout fishing. The old dear who lived here didn't know anything about what her husband did with it before he died. It was only when I spoke to the neighbour that he told me he had fished out some rudd and tench for his own pond when he had it built.

I went down there earlier and chucked a slice of bread in. Couldn't see what was eating it but there was a lot of activity immediately, which is why I'm now thinking piranha. (The ones that eat bread.)

Maybe golden orfe previous owner put in

It's a common mistake when people see Rudd for the first time, especially in sunshine. They literally glow in the sunny top layers of water. When true goldfish breed in the 'wild' they revert back to

Its a flock of fish
