It's fine for pack of wolves to run down and rip apart a deer eating it half alive ,as that's nature, but one or two lurchers bringing one down for owner to eat is cruel and barbaric, lol

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/earthnews/11457882/Wild-lynx-to-return-to-Britain-after-1300-years.html   I liked this comment;   The rewilders talk nicely about biodiversity and ecosystems,

What is it about these 'conservationists' obsessions with apex predators and 'extinct' mammals. Why not put effort into what animals we have left. The red kite introduction is the worst thing that co

my pals droped on a cuple of wildcat whilst digging in germany ther prety big and protected but if ther in a leagal quarrys earth then no big problem as long as relesed raccoons whuld be a good species to relese in the uk i say more the merrier a good 100 strong wolf pack in bradford whuld be a good start :-)

When has the sensible side of this argument ever been listened to? Look at the badger problem, everyone who is associated with the countryside knows they need controlling and the problems they create however Doris sat in her house in Cambridge with her ten cats and weekly donations of £2 per week to RSPCA are the ones who seem to know best, it's crazy. IMO the introduction of Lynx would be devestating to an already fragile countryside.

In relation to Deer there needs to be some control where guns are concerned otherwise you'll get some knob thinking he can shoot a fallow with a .177 air rifle. My deer stalking set up cost a fair bit but it doesn't need to you can purchase a decent second hand rile scope and cabinet for easy under £400.00

would a couple of dogs take a lynx?

can you imagine the carnage wolves would cause in this country?

There was a video of an American taking a cougar with 3 stag hounds. A cougar is 100-150% bigger than a lynx so I don't see why 2 or 3 determined lurchers couldn't account for a lynx.

They can no problem

Thetford forest has a lot of deer in it and a good few places in it are sites of scientivic interest and rifles are not allowed and to be honest the forestry have open seasons where every deer of any sort is culled to try to control the numbers so releasing the lynx there wouldn't be such a bad thing imo.Just wish they'd release some raccon dogs and other things as well that might make my regular mooches through the forest a bit more interesting as well

So what happens when the lynx population booms due abundant food and no rivals the deer numbers plummet and weve an army of hungry 80lb predators roaming the suburbs for an easy meal?

Where else is this happening? You really think deer numbers will plummet because of a population explosion of lynx?? Lol

For it's size England is probably one of the most shot over & dogged country's out there.....

yeh I know what you mean , lol the only thing that will plummet will be sheep numbers, its common-sense any predator .wolf, cat, dog, will go for a easy kill 1st , there not going to risk a horn, antler or hoofs , when sheep easy kill . and not so sure your average type lurcher would tackle a lynx , bloody hell some dogs think twice about killing a poxy 18-20lb fox once they been bitten few times even few bullxs as well lol, never mind a 40lb lynx with teeth+claws  just don't think so lol

Maybe in certain locales. But there is not national or regional strategy. There are lots of areas which act as sanctuaries and will supply seed populations for the surrounding areas.

I think you're right bird, the average lurcher or lurchers are not going to be pulling down too many lynx! Lol.....but I doubt the amount of disturbance they would no doubt encounter in the british country side, would lead to a population explosion......not that I'm saying it's a great idea either, but I doubt they would be devastating......or a particular danger, no more so than wild boar or fresians! Lol
