Born Hunter 17,907
When a dog kills a deer its 'barbaric cruelty'....when an introduced wolf pack kills a deer it's 'nature'.....hhhmmmmmmm You're not slipping enough dogs! slip a pack, it's nature then. The Seeker 3,048
When has the sensible side of this argument ever been listened to? Look at the badger problem, everyone who is associated with the countryside knows they need controlling and the problems they create however Doris sat in her house in Cambridge with her ten cats and weekly donations of £2 per week to RSPCA are the ones who seem to know best, it's crazy. IMO the introduction of Lynx would be devestating to an already fragile countryside. In relation to Deer there needs to be some control where guns are concerned otherwise you'll get some knob thinking he can shoot a fallow with a .177 air rifle. My deer stalking set up cost a fair bit but it doesn't need to you can purchase a decent second hand rile scope and cabinet for easy under £400.
General lee 979
would a couple of dogs take a lynx? can you imagine the carnage wolves would cause in this country? There was a video of an American taking a cougar with 3 stag hounds. A cougar is 100-150% bigger than a lynx so I don't see why 2 or 3 determined lurchers couldn't account for a lynx. They can no problem
mackem 29,520
Some cougar are HUGE google byron stewart the cat guide for TNT outfitting and look in awe at the cats he gets regularly 180-200 pound horse killing monsters.
fireman 11,331
Thetford forest has a lot of deer in it and a good few places in it are sites of scientivic interest and rifles are not allowed and to be honest the forestry have open seasons where every deer of any sort is culled to try to control the numbers so releasing the lynx there wouldn't be such a bad thing imo.Just wish they'd release some raccon dogs and other things as well that might make my regular mooches through the forest a bit more interesting as well
JDHUNTING 1,817
So what happens when the lynx population booms due abundant food and no rivals the deer numbers plummet and weve an army of hungry 80lb predators roaming the suburbs for an easy meal?

Where else is this happening? You really think deer numbers will plummet because of a population explosion of lynx?? Maybe in certain locales. But there is not national or regional strategy. There are lots of areas which act as sanctuaries and will supply seed populations for the surrounding areas. Lol.....but I doubt the amount of disturbance they would no doubt encounter in the british country side, would lead to a population explosion......not that I'm saying it's a great idea either, but I doubt they would be devastating......or a particular danger, no more so than wild boar or fresians!
