My New Goldfish Tank :)

Recommended Posts

Yes please! how much do you want for it?

Goldies have a reputation for destroying plants but mine are well behaved. But then I feed them veg and put duckweed in specially for themm to munch on.

I have 19 different plant species growing in mine, from bacopa to tiger lotus :D

To my reckoning, the tank will hold 720 liters :D:D:D

Its 5 foot by 2 foot by 2 1/2 foot!

Nowt ,you can have it  Will pm you when I start emptying it..

705 litres to be exact.....the Aqua 1250 canister filter is only good for about 250 litres,i dont know much about Goldfish but id imagine they,re reasonably hardy......tank seems a bit excessive for a few Goldfish :icon_eek: .....and whats with the cups and saucers didnt you have enough gravel :D

Running that filter in that tank and you will need more than a few snails to keep the algae down.

I can only imagine you want to grow plants commercially cause thats way too much tank for a few goldfish.

You`d need to make at least a little money to make looking after that thing worthwhile.

Trust me my fish are worth any amount to me, since keeping them I have been able to cut down on my head meds. It really is true when folk say that watching fish is good for you ;)

The cups and saucers are because I like them, and it means I can have some plants on the bare slate. I have the area of bare slate as that is where i feed them, and it is dead easy to siphon out any leftovers off the smooth surface ;)

I don't grow commercially as such, but when I do the pruning i can either sell the cuttings, swap them or my local fish supplier has them for a bit of store credit ;)

They are in 330 liters at the moment, and so far no algae!

I think they will love it, and since August my white one Fsh has gone from the size of an almond to the size of a goose egg! Alot of people don't realise that they can grow to the size of a coconut, without the fins!

Apparently the more water the better with goldfish mate. They produce something like 4x as much waste as other cold water fish, they are meant to be a pond fish rather than a tank fish. I know people have kept them in bowls for donkeys years but they need a lot of space to really do well.

I thought goldfish would demolish live plant's ?

Think this will be ok ,they tend to muller the softer plants Elodea etc, these fancy goldfish spend most of their lives trying to swim properly :laugh:

True that. I used to have lionheads and redcaps, they occasionaly used to float I was told its because they gulp loads of air while they eat off the surface.

Id love some more fancy goldfish one day, I could watch them for hours.

I have had a few fancies over the years, I really like their character, very daft and friendly lol

I had a few summer in my garden pond and planned to bring them in for the winter, they get much more vivid colouring in a pond.

Unfortunately the heron visited and as you can imagine these things are ridiculously easy pickings, immobile and with no sense of danger.
