just a quick question , How expensive are heat lamps to run? And how cold before you would turn them on? Three dogs in sleeping area 50mm king span then ply on top on floor and walls and ceiling Also heat lamp

to work out the price of runnning the lamp = power(W) X hours running x cost kwh

so if its a 250w heat lamp on for 5 hours a day will cost about 19p a day depending on how much you pay per kwh

No need for heat lamps.i have a litter of pups to 5 weeks all healthy and strong with no heat never mind adult dogs.all they need is a dry draught free bed with some bedding.my kennels only have insulation in the ceiling and are block built and when I open the bench area to walk in,in the mornings I can feel the heat as I open the door.

So if you were to have a pup at say 6 weeks itself in a kennel you wouldn't use a heat lamp?

So if your kennel area inside was 4 meters by 3 meters and 8 foot high you reckon you wouldn't need any heat during the winter when its minus ??? ........

Bugger the expense unless you're dogs in the house its the least you can do for them also use them after a night on the lamp look after you're dog and the good ones will look after you

with out a doubt mate my heat lamps been on 24 7 since the pups been in the hut plus a tube heater on tonight it's freezing up tonight atb

Iv'e fitted mine with a blow heater in the kennel area ... Its Toastie warm ... Also got a log burner in the workshop area keeps a lovely heat ........

The guy int pub said real dog men let pups sleep in with there wifes in there beds and they should sleep out with the adult dogs outside if the sleep area is sufficient

a fit healthy adult dog might not NEED heat, but it just might LIKE a bit of heat........ my heaters go on when it goes below 5 degrees, they are on a thermostat. dogs come indoors at night.

I can't make it cosier it is the size it is and making it smaller would just waste space ... I agree if your dogs are in a 4x4x4 kennel that's well built and insulated with no drafts and good bedding then you probably don't need external heat but mine are in a big indoor area and they work seven days a week no matter the weather so when they get back they get the best feeding and the best comfort and if that means fitting a heating system then they get a heating system .........
