Theres my single handed fox dog only way to run a dog single handed dont get me wrong you dont get as much single but you atleast you no what you have in your pen

exactly trunk, they have to prove theyre worthy of earning their keep on their own 1st, then if the fox gets away it was better on the night or day not because a dog rubber gobbed it, takes as much to feed a gooden as it does a baddun
out of curiosity how many foxes would you expect to see on a night out in ireland on average?

a fair few, amongst other things too, but i only heard about lamping only dogs or daytime only dogs, rabbit dogs, fox dogs on here. to us the dog had to do it all or it wasnt kept, all rounders so to speak, maybe it was just because of the way the troubles were, ment you could only really hunt certain areas so your dog had to be open to more than 1 trick

Your on the money alright a lurcher used to have to do it all now I more or less concentrate on fox day and night and for me the are as hard to catch day or night lol

At one time I was obsessed with catching foxes, mainly on the lamp with dogs run from a vehicle, I lived for it and over the years I got to see some top class dogs work, catching them was always the e

The big man after a hard days work lol

the 2 black ones on the dvd are a good pair( lulu and ged ) never missed much ,the dog I owned was danny the saluki bull greyhound which was in the back of the transit van looking worse for wear like I say the dvds were for our use only they got out if it was left 2 me it would have been edited properly some things should have been took out some people slated the dogs for being paired up and some being sluggish the reason was some of the dogs had been out maybe for 5 nights ,sometimes the ground was not the right conditions but I still think it is funny when a friend of mine got bit

best fox dogs ive seen are on mr Edwards hunting foxes by day dvd..........the hunt, the catch , the dispatch? , not many sight dogs can hunt like that as they hunt like scent dogs

if the stupid ban had never taken place I would definately like to make a singles and a doubles foxing dvd but I am sure somebody would winge and whine about that but I bet it would be a good watch well just wishful thinking just to see which people would think was a good watch ? :whistling:

I see we're both sides are coming from... An if I still done aload of foxing I would deffiently have room for a quick dog that maybe couldn't or wouldn't finish a fox single handed but then I would certaintly be kennelling a dog that could do it single before one of them...

Here is a pic of a dog and a bitch when ran together didn't miss many If one of them got upto a fox... Doubled up catch dogs all them what you want but we had some fun with them!

Just to throw something into the mix.......

Before the ban myself and a very good friend were out one night with his very good dog squeaking,

This dog must stand at 28ins and very powerful, not slight or tall, a proper testament to his mix of bull greyhound and desert hound blood.....

This dog is what I would call a lump, a sledgehammer, no grace just gets a hold and hits again and again...

We killed one fox when we were out quite sharpish, then moved on,

We killed another in the next place not long after, almost straight away we killed another then another on the way back to the motor if I remember correctly

4 foxes in about 2 hours in total....

A great night for us and more importantly the dog.

Now reading this you may think fair play, but we ran another 3 or 4 in this time and being honest should have killed 2 of those.

Through no fault of the dog mind, it was that the hound was just f***ing knackered and maybe not quite as keen to tangle so soon after a spot of combat.

Me and him discussed this over a brew on our return to his..

What's better?

Knowing you have a dog more than capable of doing this on his jack in such a short time without any assistance?

Or him being ran alongside another vulpine euthanising canine and sticking 8 onto the turf?

For me personally, I like the idea of single handed ness, but two dogs is far cleaner and effective

Yes you can only kill them once, but they'll also only be fooled once or twice

you make good point, although id prefare to run 2 single handd dogs together rather than a catch only dog for if 1 ever got hurt then you know the fox still gets a quick death and not a drawn out process
