Ladies And Gentlemen...

Recommended Posts

Has the great British institution of women aspiring to be a Lady and men aspiring to be a Gentleman died out?

Some magazine has published what the modern day Gentleman is and it provoked my thoughts...

50-100 years ago I'm led to believe that to be described and gentlemanly or a ladylike was the ultimate compliment. These days it almost seems like we have lost that.

So, what is it to be a Lady or a Gentleman in today's Britain and is it worth pursuing anymore or just an outdated concept?

I think its simply behaving in an appropriate manner for whatever situation you're in basically ... just knowing how to conduct yourself really IMO it has nothing to do with wealth or status ... you c

I couldnt give a shit if its old fashioned and untrendy or not i,ll always have manners and be respectful around any woman theres nothing worse than people who lack class regardless of their standing

It's wasted on today's society. Always polite and curteous to older folk.   But I wouldn't go out my way for the rest, maj are pig ignorant foul mouthed and like I said manners would be wasted on

I think to be the perfect Gentleman or Lady is a difficult thing, especially today when not everybody appreciates the traditional behaviour and etiquette attached. It's certainly not a function of wealth or social position though I do perhaps believe people of a higher social background view it with greater importance and that is perhaps why people that associate themselves with the working class more have come to frown on it and resent it.

It's surely all about social behaviour and etiquette, never unintentionally making someone feel uncomfortable by treating them as lower than yourself or unwelcome unless provoked. If women appreciate it, treating them like a lady, holding doors, paying for meals, acting like a man but not at the expense of allowing her to have equal say and choice.

I'm far from a true gentleman, but I certainly aspire to be. Far too many vices to take that title....

What is it to be a Gentleman today? I read recently: "A true gentleman holds the door for his lady........ and slaps her arse as she walks through it". LOL something like that.

is this being gentleman like ?,,,,,get in that kitchen right now and get my feckin tea on

I believe that would depend on whether or not that that is how your lady likes to be spoken to?

Acting gentlemanly isn't all sophistication, manners and etiquette, it's making those around you feel comfortable with their percieived social anxieties or faux pas and if necessary taking the embarassment for them.... Well, so I understand anyway.:D

It's all down to good manners, and how you were brought up. If you were fed with a catapult and got no tuition from your parents like today's society, all kids nowa days just expect to get what they want and have no concept of hard work or giving instead of receiving. It's a total fault with today's society, there's nothing worse than going out for a meal and some kunts kids running mental, swearing and general bad manners when both parents sit there ignoring the fact that it's going on. Boils my blood. It's all this Jeremy Kyle facebastardingbook anti teach your kids manners and discipline health n safety at work act Shiite. That runs rife in today's world,
