Removal Of Dewclaws Off Lurcher Pups.... What's Your Views

I bred a litter 8 years ago,and removed the dew claws,but they just kept regrowing,the sire still has his,dont know if this is a common thing,I did ask an old racing dog trainer,and he knew of it happening,luckily I've had no problems with them

if you don't cut them back far enough they will grow back

I could'nt have cut them any further back,everyday there was a bit more regrowth so I kept nipping them back until about the 10th day,then the pups were showing some pain so I never tried again,they were born at the start of the last good summer that we had,and I put their rapid growth down to endless hours of sunshine,and plenty good food,even the dews refused to stop growing

feel sorry for them pups I bet they enjoyed that, if they have been done properly they won't grow back, and once they have been done they should be left to heal, you don't just cut the nail you have got to go further back to past the joint, it should only be done by someone who knows what there doing

My last two dogs have them and have caused no problem, but I have been lucky and trim them back ever other week.

Out of choice I would have them off.

its takes minutes to take them off the whole litter at 2/3 days old. I have no idea why people leave them on, its pointless !

my old dog is 8 and a half years old never had a problem with his dew claws and hes spent 100s of hours out in the field. however i think they should be removed.
