A steady start for Bron...

Recommended Posts

Well with Bron due to come into season I thought I'd give her a little session before being off the road for a few weeks, first 3 slips she was a little keen and overshot the first 2 and lost the 3rd in some reeds, wasn't overly concerned though with her being just shy of 11 months and not really been on the lamp. Found her next rabbit which was a squatter so I walked her up and making sure she was fixed on it which she was, got within a few feet of it and it decided it was going to make a dash, Bron was on it in a flash snaffling it up within a few strides :D gave her a little bit of praise and moved on with her missing another which found the safety of a wood after 2/3 turns. Has she was returning from this slip I spotted another for her and after a little bit of back and forth along a fence line she picked it up with a tumble and retrieved this one faultlessly. Got into the next field and after a quick scan found her another sat out a fair way from safety let her go and she was onto this one quickly and picked it up nicely, retrieved this one to within a few feet. She then missed a couple which in all fairness were quite long slips but with the rabbits being a little scarce as the night went on I gave her anyway and she was spotting really well so not all negative.

The rabbits had seemed to dry up now so decided to head back and on the way back had a little shine in the fields we'd already done and managed to pick up another which Bron seemed to have lost into some cover but after piling into the cover managed to push it back out and take before it had chance to reach the fence. Then in the final field I gave her a slip on one that was tight to the hedge which she missed but as she was returning another that was squatting got up and made a dash but the little bitch was on it like a flash and nailed it with a good strike right on the hedge line.

Only 4 rabbits caught but I think Bron did real well on some tough slips and the experience she gained is invaluable, was impressed with her running and her spotting was real good, just a pity she's going to be off work for a few weeks with her heat but it can't be helped. All in all was a good outing if not for numbers but for experience. :victory:
