My great uncle had ferrets, dogs all his life. When I was a kid he had his last dog, it was a lab/whippet, he said it was best ferreting dog he ever had. It made 20yrs old, was blind and deaf in the finish. I took it out for a short ratch once when it was about 18, still marking 100%.

Nothing wrong with that, when he's 9 months he'll be 'smashing' teeth!! :D

I've seen one lab x grey work, she smashes through cover and works rough ground very well, really obedient too.

But doesn't have the gears for bigger open fields.

would make a good ratching/lamping dog imo especially on rougher ground.

seen some very good labs, when I used to go been beating and these were leggy types great stamina go all day long . Get the right type back to greyhound make good rabbit+fox dogs. When they done fox drives , these labs would deff kill foxes no prob. look at some of the males big strong dogs, with heads like fookin bucket's . wouldn't go back to whippet, maybe whippetxgrey or just grey as you want to keep the height with strong x like this .!

Ive got a hellish leggy cocker dog that I was looking at yesterday and thinking he would be good back to a whippet but I have always wondered why more people don't use the right lab in a lurcher.

Always figured it was a speed thing but a 3/4 should be alright?

I have an rottie/lab cross whippet-grey beddy-grey obviously he was a accident but he turned out a top all round dog. Very intelligent dog and believe it or not very fast with skin as tough as a badger. The land round me consists of chalk flint general crap land and not once have I ad a problem with sore feet etc. Would put a picture up but im using me phone and it won't let me post one.
