ferret biting,,what to do?

Recommended Posts

The thing is, is she in pain? You need to rule that out first. If shes turned like that out of the blue then she might be.

Is she getting out of her hutch enough everyday before you handle her to release all her energy.

How much dry food are you feeding them both?

Gag it wi ur todger

your a brave lad for wapping your todger out near a nippy ferret

I just got a big Poley hob kit, off a geezer that had 3 or 4 litters in one big run and they were all nippy, well vicious really, because of no handling. Well when matey went to get his falconers glov

My new ferret got a tendancy to bite or nip if you'd rather, I presum its because of new suroundings and they wasn't handled atall at the place where I got her from...so do you think feed her up on a pigeon or leg of rabbit befor I handle her? (Sorry to jump in with a question on this thread).

Foxtails have you tried working the ferret yet?

Only ask cos i Just took mine out for the first time today and they never even nipped once which was really strange considering up until yesterday they were climbing all over me biting me to shreds. The spit on the hand seemed to work, but working them seemed to be the best thing ive done, early days still but they seem altogether different ferrets now  . One of em looks like she might be half decent aswell, not sure on the other one though, werent exactly encouraging what i say from her today!

you've not said if it's a kit or a full grown ferret

it sounds like a full grown ferret?

if it is it'll probably never change

and there's nothing worse than a bitter

I'd disagree with that Ive had two rescue ferrets both mature, my technique to stop them biting is clenching my fist and only letting them go near my knuckles, as a rule they cant get there teeth over them enough to hurt or lock on, at them same time offering food in the palm of another or smoothing there back takes a week or two till i can pick it up without getting bitten. and dont be jumpy when they come to your hand, if you move it quick it may scae them and they attack, just et it go keeping your knuckles at it.

Touchwood day 3 and still havent been nipped. Must of just taken them a week to get used to me if you reckon it takes about a week.

Anything up to a couple of weeks normally IMO.

You're right about working calming them down though, especially if you don't exercise them when they're not working. A hyper animal like that needs to let off steam

The likely prob is you ,take you time when picking them up

let them smell your scent and DO NOT snatch at them

another prob can be if you are too near the hole of the sleeping

compartment ,had one who was as gentle as a lamb except

when she was half in ,half out of the sleeping area that was

her domain ,

Finally keep handling them ,some think once a week is enough

it is not .I go in my court and play with them at least twice a day

or more .

WHY would you think there was the slightest notion of any sense in that theory? If he suggested lead pulling could be cured during excercise by hitting the dog with your penis whilst chanting Abba songs backwards would you have tried it? It makes as much sense.............
