Personally i like Hawke scopes , used them for years and they suit my needs . Decent glass , fine ret , good price , and fairly bomb proof . Am i just blinkered ? We all get set in our ways , so what other scopes do you use / recomend ? Im looking to get some kit together and start over , so lets hear your thoughts please .

I have to go with you on Hawke scopes for what you get for the money.

I have two guns with simple 3-9x40 Hawke Frontier scopes, the last made with the Japanese glass and after looking around, at what's about for £80 I can't find anything close to go on my latest springer.

Thinking about a Mamba Lite though for the HW100, I fancy a bit more mag and just a change I suppose.

Hawke TAC scopes look good but a bit heavy I am thinking.

Hi Craig,

I use a Hawke Sidewinder 30, 3 - 12 x 50 side parallax and Ir model on my HW100 S and its the best scope I have so far ever used in my life on a air rifle. A little bit heavier than the normal Hawke models as already said above but the optics are far superior to others models Ive used before.

The Mamba scopes are also very good and I enjoyed using one on Phils .25 Custm Ultra over them weeks I reviewed it for The Rise of the Verminators.

I've also just bought a brand new Hawke Varmint SF 2.5 - 10 x 44 side wheel parallax with the half mil dot ret that I will be using for rats at close range and its also looking like a very nice scope, but I will tell you more once I've tested it under more conditions.

In 2009 I had a Niko Stirling Game King that was also a very nice scope and well worth a look at buddy.

hi Bustie :air_kiss:

my first experience after many years away from air gun shooting was with Hawke scope, but couldn't get on with it. the mildots covered the target at 55/65yds,then I switched to AGS,which I found were OK but lacked the clarity.then tried Richter optics 3-9x50 AO which were very good for my needs, and on price. then I tried MTC scopes and liked em that much I bought 3 of them  crystal clear.

and now I have just recently bought another Hawke Varmint 2.5-10x44 1/2MD SF £85.00 a bargain for rat shooting with the scope cam.true mildot @ x10 mag so my standard day shooting mag, and lower magnification for rat shooting at close range 6/8yds .

haven't really put it through a proper test yet but bagged 4 bunnies with it last night  will say this though! the ret is crammed with mildot/half mildot and they do look a tad small.

but if you want a scope for targets and HFT then I have no trouble with the MTC Mamba 3-12x44,30mm tube has illuminated ret too and side parallax.its that good I came 5th over all in the SHS recoiling class

the Mamba light has no illuminated ret,so no good for dusk shooting/low light plus its a 25mm tube,so wont let the same amount of light through as a 300mm.

good luck in your quest for a scope "Fatpantz" :tongue2:

Hiya Craig mate,

I've always used cheap scopes until recently, Had two mamba lites which were excellent one was on My theoben Scirroco .22

and the other was on the HW 97KT Synthetic in .177, But thought i'd treat myself when i bought My first ever PCP, The Rapid MK 2,

Scoured the forums and met a lad on the Rapid forum called bigmax, EX Sniper who has just left the forces and he Raved about

the Falcon menace, abit heavy but class glass which wipes the floor with my mamba's, Firearm rated so no recoil worry's.

Also First focal plain, so no worry's on POI dropping and changing aim points when you change Magnification.

Hope you find the scope that suits you bud.

We had a problem with a Mamba, looking through the Nite Eye down the track in the direction of the setting sun I got a clear image, nice, bright well defined. Mary had a Mamba on her HW, we had massive flare on it, it whited out the image with the flare, could not shoot with it. What was clearly visible with a Hawke as impossible to see with a Mamba! She swapped it for a Nite Eye!

I have had a few Craig!

My 1st scope on re-entry was a Bisley 4x40 with a 30/30 ret. Fantastically clear image and is what took my first bunnies (as well as mice).

Later I swapped to a 4-9x40 mildot (SMK) it was grate until the top end mag when the image became "milky" :(

My 3rd scope upon re-enering shooting was a huge heavy 50/60mm glass AO with a widescreen tv 30/30 ret.

Blooming great scope on the pod, but free hand, jeezzzz it was heavy! 3 to 9 mag. Non coated but AO.

After clearing a neighbours son's garden in another village I was paid with enough brass (not that I expected anything in return) that I was able to afford the factory second (blemish on the objective lense) of the Leupold MK4 scope (that I used at the THL Meet in 2010).

I also have Si's old Bushnell/Tasco IR Deer Pass Ret with 3to9 mag x 50 (as used by Si on his early video's). Mice and clear and not too expensive :D

I also have the Hawke High Deff 4 to 12 mag 50 AO scope (the only part of the Ultra combo the piggies gave me back) Exceptionally bright optics, but the IR is a little strong for my eyes even at the 1st setting (although I hope it will be better once I have contact lenses fitted or at least new goggles).

I had a 35quid nikko sterling 3-9-40 on my springer,,shot loads with it , clear enough for day shooting , but bought my second scope which was a *50 night eye which was great , but the front lense came loose , I then had a replacement in *44 which is now on my mates gun as I have a panarama 3-9*40 ev ao , and its by far the clearest scope iv used , really light weight and offers good intake of light in dark..when lamping , couldn't tell the diffrence between this *40 scope and my night eye *50 or *44 scope ..I don't think I'd bother going for another scope as I'm now getting used to it being an ao scope ...atb
