The ppl i know from down the years they certinly have been for them atb walshy Yeah they were mate probably around the march april september and october time's of the year greyhound's were knocking them over before that as well it doe's not mean they were doing them in any kind of number's and 60's 50's and before etc they would of been more of a hare for the pot and there would of been no fair law etc,i am no fan of coursing dog's or saluki based lurcher's but on average they will beat a collie based dog everytime on them when it come's to a few run's 2 Quote Link to post

Rake aboot 4,936
I regulalrly see Saluki x`s that do it all, time and time again, I will admit, they can suffer a bit damage wise on some of the land round here, but on the big fields, they catch it all. Lurcher does not mean just Collie X, (and I have a collie X mind). My preference is for the dog I`ve got at the minute. Quote Link to post
moonlighter 1,165
I like saluki Xs as a good allrounder, especially where I live. Even when lamping, long slips are the norm and they seem to eat up the ground like no other. I like their high prey drive which probally comes from a saluki been a hunting dog, as apososed to collies which are not. Quote Link to post
morton 5,369
Ive owned several Saluki bred lurchers,on open land behind an hare they have few equals,a 3/4 Grey-1/4 Border i also owned accounted for more Hares over its hunting life,it caught on open land, small fields, moors, over, under and around obstacles, plough, short grass, wooded areas and anywhere else an Hare could be found. If you want a dog to run on open land, where the mutt does,nt need to use to much brain power, get a Saluki type,if you want a dog that can think on its feet, use its nose, adapt to any given scenario,multi-task and come back without to much prompting, get a Collie based mutt. There are and always will be exceptions to the rule, but not many. 2 Quote Link to post
milkydoethumper 13
Why add saluki, bull etc surely the collie has enough attitude wind to do the job ? the fact that you even have to ask the question tells me you have not got a clue..... how many of these wonder colliexs do you own and when did u get this line of hard fast stamina packed hounds Quote Link to post
border lad 1,047
well there is a lot of opinions, that is what an open Forum is about, but I am a favourite of a a good collie cross, the way they used to be bred down on the scottish borders, out a Proper working hill collie bitch, with a champion coursing greyhound on top, again it was sellective breeding, (((( we do not all live down on the Fens, now the truth for all you saluki supporters, I have and own a Sulukigrey/whippet, a beautiful; looking annimal, stands 26" he is 23 months old,he weighs 62 and half pounds, can hunt a field and carry back, when he catches, and he gives mouth, crying for help, he was not entered untill he was over 12 months of age, done a great job on his first large rabbit, 3rd bend and he stopped it, I thought I have something special here, but believe you me we would be very hungry and the cupboard would be bare, if we were waiting and depending on this fellow to put meat on the table, he is now more than happy to ride there arse, waiting for them to jump into his mouth, truth, the reason why I put up with him, I have become too attached to him, good points about him, great feet, stamina yes, quick recovery yes,I suppose, if I was young man he would not be here, but you mellow as you collect the ole pension,(((( and he was supposed to be bred out of very good stuff, so for all you knockers of other breeds, the ole collie x can put meat on the table,, well I am waiting to see if this fellow of mine comes up another notch this coming season, after all he will only be 2+ they say some dont come to life untill there 2, we live in hope, oh and he barks if a stranger comes around the yard, another+ Quote Link to post
milkydoethumper 13
lolol that just means the one youve got is a potlicker lol not all saluki xs are for the fens they can be bred into lines of colliex and bullx to make good all round hunting dogs.. if colliexs wer the be all and end all we would all have them.. nighteyes 275
imo not just stamia, feet, wind, the saluki x can add a different style to the way they run, people dont give credit that a saluki x can add that bit of running sence [read there game well ] Quote Link to post
