anyone using the trapline/steve albano type mole traps, i have used them in my garden quite a bit and am warming to them, i don,t think i will ever be able to set one as quickly as a half barrel , but at the moment i,m pretty impressed, any thoughts ?

i tried one or two and i liked them but i dont like the fact you need 2 for each setting, i also found them a bit wide sometimes,,, the good thing is i cant imagine a mole pulling out of the trap once sprung..

I have some & use them if a mole run is up the edge of a garden path or round patio slabs etc. and there's not enough room for a 1/2 barrel trap. Also put them in if the run probed turns out to be a 3 way junction. They need bedding in a bit but I find them very effective for those runs where I can't set the usual 1/2 barrel type.

Eighty? You must be loaded, they arent cheap, did you get them from killgerm?

Not loaded jobs are priced accordingly, and I find I have yet to miss with these traps, all bought from Kilgerm geniune trapline.

I have duffus and talpex and used both successfully for many a Year. But were I trap,i.e badgers foxes general public,My trap losses are negligble in comparrison to others, and I can carry double the ammount of these than any other.

As has been said -very useful to compliment a Talpex or barrel trap if you break into a three way tunnel. One of the few traps that actually contract when sprung so they don't need any headroom around them and are thus great for tight spots. I would'nt feel under-equipped without them but they are useful little tool in the armoury.

It's definitely an uphill battle to sell a new type of mole trap to experienced mole trappers. Moley, thanks for the post and glad to hear you are catching moles with our Trapline traps.

I do think even experienced trappers will find our traps useful in some soil conditions, such as very wet, muddy soil. And also in conditions where rocks or other obstacles make placement of other trap types more difficult.

We have some really crap mole traps here on the US market, and they're pretty easy to out compete. But the half barrels and the Talpex style traps are pretty good traps in the hands of an experienced user.

Hello to the mole catchers. I only recently discovered these forums & Hunting Life. Lots of interesting stuff posted on here.
Part of my duties as a maintenance man on a private estate is pest control and that's how I got into mole catching. I'd done plenty of rats, mice, wasps and ants etc before the mole hills started bubbling up, so I found an old Duffus in a drawer and went from there. I started doing private mole jobs last year - all gardens so far - and have started generating a useful 2nd income out of it. Just beer money at the moment but more than enough for a few pints. I like the work and am fascinated by all the different traps and their suitability to different situations. I use a lot of Traplines and I'd be interested to have other opinions on them - the good, the bad and the ugly if you like. Although I carry Duffus and Talpex, I've gotten into the bad habit of defaulting to tlines which has revealed that certain moles won't have anything to do with them - they seem to just chuck 'em out the way. They also often fire without catching. Not on every job, but often enough to remind me that there is always another tool for the job. I really like the Trapline, and I'm working on refining my setting technique constantly. Just wondered what other mole men's experiences with them were. And to say hello.

      Just out of interest......

Which trap do you reach for first? You can explain why if you choose.

For me, it's the Duffus every time, although I can see the attraction of the Talpex type traps.
