My earliest memories of Wheeler bred dogs were of prick eared terriers with the white blaze .Very volotile ,quick to take offence .Very dog aggressive ,easy to start work hard to break off .Used a few over the years ,one called Flint from original kennels .Personally think the type needed watering a bit which is why i used the fire over laid back Nuttal bitches and never looked back .Never saw anything but black back then but thats only my take on it .

did he start with Nuttall x staff types?

Tried to establish that years ago mate but Mr Wheeler was a bit coy over what his base was .Suffice to say it all goes way back to the dawn of the black terrier .I was told from the very start of creating a line not to worry about names only that it worked and came from a line of workers .Like it or not most of the early beginnings had good amounts of bull added im told by a few old boys that were there .The true Wheeler was /is something special thats for sure but not for everyone and is the ideal outcross for a terrier lacking a bit on the bitches side IMO .
