Scabbed And Bleeding Paws And Between Toes.
Miesque replied to jiggy's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
I used to work in the insulation industry and I know how dangerous any type of dust can be, when I opened the bag of D.E. food grade I noticed how fine it was and the light brown colour first thing I thought of this looks like brown asbestos, I also kept pigeons for years fine airborne dust (bloom) in the the loft atmosphere all the time, I'm well used to wearing a mask and will do so when using D. E. food grade I use a full face respirator type mask. http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/defaq.html Glad you're taking precautions - only sensible! http://vet360.vetlink.co.za/diatoma -

Yes, just ask for Bravecto for flea/tick prevention! -

DE is carcinogenic, particularly if it's inhaled - it's very good for controlling external parasites like mite but it works by drying them out and damaging there skin/exoskeleton so it's pretty much useless inside an animal when it's been wetted. For Demodex mange the easiest, most effective treatment is giving a single dose of Bravecto but it's not licensed for treating mange (yet), it's less harsh on the system than repeated ivermectin dosing -
That is the original strain of VHD, the 2 strain was only identified in 2010 in France and first typed in UK in late 2015, now considered widespread

No, not man made. It's just a natural variant of the original virus that has developed. Just like say, the flu virus, can mutate/change over time the rabbit hemorrhagic has too. That sort of change/mutation is why the flu jab is annual in people, trying to keep up with the newest/strongest strains.
-
There's a new strain of hemorrhagic disease, RHVD2 which is spreading rapidly. Even seeing pet bunnies with it because there's no immunity to it yet.

Most likely harvest mite this time of year - vets, shot of steroids and he should be fine

Try Tim Crothers

Mostly duck, all breeding stock

Docking is legal if you can satisfy the vet the dog is legitimately working. It is completely illegal for anyone other than a vet to dock in the ROI. Your problem comes with the fact that the Veterinary council of Ireland is pushing hard for a full docking ban without exemptions and are recommending vets do not dock. Not all vets agree with this and will still dock, just find the right one. If you don't have paperwork for a docked dog you are liable even if you bought it docked by someone else. No one is going to check it unless you've already attracted attention with your dogs then they'

best way to treat Demodex mange is using Bravecto

Teach her a hold command - easy to start with a ball and move to cold game then warm game. Start just sitting with her between your knees and handing her a ball and saying "hold" for her to take it, then "dead" to hand it back and go from there.
-
If it's not a compete pain in the ass try splitting her feeds into 2 a day to see if it helps.
-
Do you just give her one meal a day?
-
If she's a good weight bulk her food out with lower calorie stuff - Grau Rice and Veg flakes are good. Makes them think they're getting more without the extra calories. Or give her some raw bones to chew at

Protein has no effect on energy levels - fats do. The dog would have to be in such a state of protein deprivation it looked like a skeleton before protein levels had any effect on energy levels

Have a look on Zooplus.co.uk - lots of similar feeds that are a bit cheaper per kg and are delivered for free too. Nutrivet, Simpsons Premium, Meradog Pure, Taste of the Wild and Purizon for example. I use the Taste of the Wild Sierra Mountain and Nutrivet Inne Energetic with my woring gundogs and add a bit of beef/duck/chicken mince. They look fantastic, great coats and enough energy to work all day.

No, bird mites/lice are not able to survive on other species

Courgette risotto is good too and you can use some of the male flowers in it. Courgette pasta with Parmesan, basil and cream is great also. I've made courgette, chorizo and feta fritters too when we've had kilos to get rid off which were a hit

If in doubt,Vets, with a little more experience its part and parcel of the seasons.Get a staple gun, learn how to use it,none of us knew until we learnt, all part of the process mucker, good luck. I didnt think muscle could be stapled ? It can't if you want it to heal properly!

I use mixture of both covers all eventualities, but these new age feeds are a major step forward, they stem from Canada where the feed standards are massively better than our own poor standards for dogs and they not even in same ball park quality wise Yet all the top mushers out there feed their sled dogs predominantly on fish and meat ........ I've been out on the Iditarod (support crew) - our teams were fed a mixture of raw and kibble...as was every other team!! Yep I was there many moons ago that's why I said PREDOMINATELY feed meat and fish ....... Just pointing out that Kibb

Yes, competing spaniels - it's not cheap (cheaper this year?). It was big though, loads to see, lots of demos and competitions.Loads of shopping. Food was great and when it was CLA the traders had a limit on prices (so no charging £2.20 for a bottle of water lark - not sure if that's still the same but it was a great idea, make it fair for everyone). I clocked what we covered on one day - just walking about we did 12km inside the gates -
