  1. I used to work in the insulation industry and I know how dangerous any type of dust can be, when I opened the bag of D.E. food grade I noticed how fine it was and the light brown colour first thing I thought of this looks like brown asbestos, I also kept pigeons for years fine airborne dust (bloom) in the the loft atmosphere all the time, I'm well used to wearing a mask and will do so when using D. E. food grade I use a full face respirator type mask. http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/defaq.html Glad you're taking precautions - only sensible! http://vet360.vetlink.co.za/diatoma
  2. Yes, just ask for Bravecto for flea/tick prevention!
  3. DE is carcinogenic, particularly if it's inhaled - it's very good for controlling external parasites like mite but it works by drying them out and damaging there skin/exoskeleton so it's pretty much useless inside an animal when it's been wetted. For Demodex mange the easiest, most effective treatment is giving a single dose of Bravecto but it's not licensed for treating mange (yet), it's less harsh on the system than repeated ivermectin dosing
  4. That is the original strain of VHD, the 2 strain was only identified in 2010 in France and first typed in UK in late 2015, now considered widespread
  5. No, not man made. It's just a natural variant of the original virus that has developed. Just like say, the flu virus, can mutate/change over time the rabbit hemorrhagic has too. That sort of change/mutation is why the flu jab is annual in people, trying to keep up with the newest/strongest strains.
  6. There's a new strain of hemorrhagic disease, RHVD2 which is spreading rapidly. Even seeing pet bunnies with it because there's no immunity to it yet.
  7. Most likely harvest mite this time of year - vets, shot of steroids and he should be fine
  8. Docking is legal if you can satisfy the vet the dog is legitimately working. It is completely illegal for anyone other than a vet to dock in the ROI. Your problem comes with the fact that the Veterinary council of Ireland is pushing hard for a full docking ban without exemptions and are recommending vets do not dock. Not all vets agree with this and will still dock, just find the right one. If you don't have paperwork for a docked dog you are liable even if you bought it docked by someone else. No one is going to check it unless you've already attracted attention with your dogs then they'
  9. best way to treat Demodex mange is using Bravecto
  10. Teach her a hold command - easy to start with a ball and move to cold game then warm game. Start just sitting with her between your knees and handing her a ball and saying "hold" for her to take it, then "dead" to hand it back and go from there.
  11. If it's not a compete pain in the ass try splitting her feeds into 2 a day to see if it helps.
  12. If she's a good weight bulk her food out with lower calorie stuff - Grau Rice and Veg flakes are good. Makes them think they're getting more without the extra calories. Or give her some raw bones to chew at
