If he had his way, he'd be out with her already
-
Thanks fellas, he's into everything and anything he can get his teeth into and loves a shit stir, very confident pup. He'll be run on rabbit, hare, roo (which is still legal in my state, kinda), feral cats and the odd fox and pig when I travel

Cheers Fuji. I'd forgotten how much I missed this. Not so much the raising pups part, they're still little feckers but man I love a good running dog in action

After shifting to the pitbulls for a few years and then having a nasty car accident, I've gone back into the runners. This is my 11 week old male aussie staghound pup out of strong working lines. First pic is a 9 week and 11 week comparison, last two pics are his dam (black bitch) and his dam's littermate (hairy bitch). Having a lot of fun with him and cant wait for him to start. Expect him to mature somewhere around 28-34" tts, Sire was large rough coated dog around 32"tts and dam is around 29-30"tts. Dam is a very quick bitch for her size and will take daytime hares consistently. Can't comme

Big Buck Mink Drawing A Muskrat Out Of The Rocks.
Red Center replied to Minkenry's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I've been a long time subscriber of your youtube channel Minkenry, great to see you on here. I really felt for you when you lost Washushe around a year ago. You have a great channel -
Nice video mate, looks like it was a good day
-
Nice pics there, looks like its still fairly cold where you are
-
Nice one, I always like my dogs steady around the guns regardless of the work. Makes life so much easier
-
nice work mate, she's looking good

Hard to tell much about him from pictures but he is considerably larger than your estimation. 240lbs on the weight and above average tusks. I'm not to big on strictly teeth pictures unless I have someone with me that wants to pose with the big and hold the pigs head good where the teeth show well. He's a good pig then, fair lump of swine. What sort of country do you hunt?

The wolf x deer/grey in my avatar turned into a man biter so I shot him. These dogs are too fast and powerful to run the risk of them getting stuck into someone. The dog may never bite you or your family but how would you feel if one day you're out walking, she slips the lead and tears into some schoolkid? Ain't worth the risk bud, there's too many people aggressive dogs in the world without you owning another

He's a decent boar, pretty average tusks but I bet the little b*****ds were razor sharp! He looks in good condition from the photo, any idea on weight? i'd guess around 160 lbs from the pics but hard to say from a photo. Hope the dog heals up well

I've hunted both ways and prefer the dogs like the ones i have now that do it all instead of having to have multiple dogs to fill the same role 1 finder holder does. Usually I run 2 dogs but really only 1 is needed in most cases. Any more than two dogs and they start getting in each other's way and grabbing a hold of things they aren't supposed to, it can get pretty messy. Also the more dogs the harder it is for em to avoid copping a tusk when the pigs start fighting. I like two or three working on the tray, and then I'll have 2 or 3 fresh dogs in the crate waiting for their turn to swit

Sounds like they've caught the bug! Won't be long and they'll be asking for a pup haha she's addictive stuff I don't blame em, I remember the rush I got sticking my first pig as a young fella

fook me breeding a dog at 7 months, I wouldn't think he'd even be able to get it up yet! At least he'll be able to brag to all his dog mates about it. Seriously though what a load of shit you've got no idea what sort of problems your dog may be passing on to the litter at that age and if they're even worth feeding let alone breeding from

Had a deerhound/greyhound with a splash of wolfhound that had to be pts at 10 months recently, was gonna be a cracking dog. Lot of my family have been hunting and breeding staghounds which are essentially a dhxgh with tiny bits of this and that in there for generations. Great dogs, my favourite cross hands down

I've always sorted a hard mouth dog by getting em to do a couple retrieves with a hard bristle brush, they usually have a soft mouth after that! My grandad used that on all his duck dogs, he said it's a bad habit that they do that but it means they have good prey drive so you shouldn't hold it against em and just try to break the habit. I agree with him, its a bad habit but nothing to fault the dog over. I hate dog aggression and people aggression most, certainly won't breed from a dog with these habits and people snappers get shot. I also hate dogs that are very anxious, don't mind a bit of t

Looks good hopefully the rest of him grows into his ears hahaha

I agree when picking collies, when I used to work sheep with em I always picked the pups that sat around the middle of the pecking order unless after a hard yard type dog that need to get in the sheeps face. The real bold pups seem to give you most trouble with putting too much pressure on the sheep, even getting snappy. Especially for trials, I find it easier to encourage to dog to push up on them a bit more if needed when small errors can be costly

Agree completely, the best dogs I've owned have all been gifted from mates

She's a nice bitch hopefully she gets a good home

Different lines mature at different rates but from my experience they usually hit their stride between 14-18 months and then start to learn their gears etc. Slowest maturing dogs I've seen were staghound x wolfhound, my uncle had one big male about 10 years ago who was 34 tts and 48kg in hard condition and was fookin useless until he hit 2 years. Just completely uninterested in anything other than running around and playing, pissing on bushes etc and then a couple of days after his 2nd birthday he just switched one and after that he was an absolute machine. Seen him kill 30-40 kg pigs and rag

I'd love to get another Saluki one day, unfortunately I haven't been able to find anything other than show stock over here. Used to hunt with a few pups I got off a yank lass who brought over two breeding pairs with her. If only someone bred dogs like this and worked them here

I had a cattle dog years back who was originally called Gus but I yelled out at him calling him a dickhead so much by the time he was 12 months he only responded to dickhead. For ten years I went everywhere with a dog called dickhead ffs had some laughs about it though

That was just a small pocket of them there are a few hundred running about , be a few more with this yrs young They seem to be excepted by most from what I can gather , no one seems to bothered about them where I work and hunt . Yeah I saw plenty driving from Picton to Dunedin. I got the same vibe from everyone, they just sort of shrugged it off and said no one bothers with em. Mention deer, tahr or chamois and it's a whole other story
