  1. It will work, but as Foxy says, it may take a few days to attract the foxes attention. The downside is that you'll have to be there until it does. It is sods law that the fox will turn up when you're not there and because it is only a lamb the fox will most probably drag the carcass away rather than feed on it there. Also, in my experience it helps by splitting the lamb so that plenty of scent gets out for the fox to smell.
  2. I would mate. . If you can't get the results that you want try a different powder. I've never used RL15 so I can't give any advice there. I used Hodgdons CFE 223 out of my 22-250, and still use it out of my 223. It gives good velocity and accuracy. It meters well and is very clean. Keep an eye on that pressure and take care.
  3. I would start again at the minimum load and work up, only this time make a note of where the stiff bolt lift and/or tough extraction begins. This is one of the headaches that comes with reloading .............. All rifles are different. The specified data for a particular load my not be the most suitable for your rifle. Have you saved your spent cases from the overpressure firings? I would inspect them to see if anything obvious is visible e.g. - http://www.massreloading.com/reading_pressure_signs.html https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-utTFzrJi2M What make powder and primers ar
  4. Could not have been that great - no response from the OP ! I am surprised. . I would have jumped at the chance. Perhaps it is just the travel aspect?
  5. Without knowing any more details mate I would have to say that it sounds like overpressure. What weight powder and what weight are you running? What is the maximum weight stated by the vendor? Don't shoot any more of these rounds until you have established the cause!
  6. Alright mate? I have a number of Photons and all are different regarding the adjustment requirement to zero them. Bonkers eh? In my experience nearly all Photons will make your rifle shoot low and your adjustment (y coordinate) on the scope runs out a -30. A dirty fix to this would be to put a shim between the tube and your rear mount. It will get the job done but I wouldn't advise this though as it will put stress on the tube of your Photon. I have used these in the past - http://opticswarehouse.co.uk/product/burris-signature-zee-weaver-30mm-scope-rings/ Not cheap, and you will re
  7. Hey chum. I'm from Pontypool mate. Even closer to Cwmbran. . I'm there tomorrow so I'll pop into CS Sporting for a gander. Cheers. Wait until the weather breaks and we'll have to meet up for a shoot.
  8. That looks beautiful. . I've got to get me one of those for sure!!
  9. Yeah, I've watched a fox carcass wither away, day after day for weeks. It was over the summer and it absolutely honked! I wasn't going to touch it for sure. Like you say Deker, nothing wants to eat them. Even crows seem to give them a wide berth.
  10. I normally inform the farmers and they disposes of the carcass. I believe that they are obligated to remove dead stuff like this from their land. If they aren't that concerned I generally tuck them away out of sight under a hedge or in a gulley, if one happens to be around.
  11. That is a very good point SS. . I'll look into it. North Briton - My landowners do just that. The majority of heir sheep are released onto the mountain to graze outside the winter months. Thank you for the information. There are a number of wooded areas that are peripheral to this area. I know that they have a number of drives each year up through this woodland with the shooters standing on the common land waiting for the foxes to appear. This activity goes on without any interference from the police whatsoever.
  12. That was my take on it also, but I was hoping that one of the learned few on here would tell me otherwise. . Hey ho, at least I haven't been breaking the law.
  13. Hey Joe, I see that you are familiar with my neck of the woods then??
  14. You will get them tighter mate .......... I guarantee. . You'll try different powders, primers, seating depths, neck tensions ......... the list goes on! You understand what I mean now when I say that it is addictive eh? .
  15. Advice and opinions please chaps .... The vast majority of my permissions are hilltop farms. All border my local 'Common Land', or as we like to call it around here "The Mountain". On this land there are no public roads or such like, only sheep tracks. I frequently have to move from one field to another that are not adjacent, and this necessitates a short walk over some of this land. To date I have always unloaded my rifle and placed it in the case for the minor journey. My question - is the casing of the rifle necessary? I have no intention of shooting over the land and the rifle woul
  16. Mmmm .... that's odd. . I can't imagine what would have caused that line. If it was the die then I would have expected more cases to be the same. 1p piece you say?? I bet your smile was ear to ear?? . It is a great feeling isn't it, knowing that YOU made that happen. . Keep up the good work mate.
  17. Were these the Lapua or the PPU ones Ad? It looks like a mark caused by the die if it is the Lapua. If it is the PPU then I would be more inclined to think they came from the factory like that.
  18. Throw some photos up here when you get the chance mate.
  19. Don't quote me, but I'm sure that I've read somewhere that roughly 20+% of the UK's adult population suffer from anxiety in one form or another. Gone are the days of this being a taboo subject. It is a recognised condition and through medication and other forms of treatment (counselling, cognitive therapy etc.) it can be controlled just like any other affliction. Bodies such as the police have to recognise this fact. I would definitely have a chat with your GP as soon as possible and get the help that you need. One thing that you can be sure of is that the anxiety is not going to go away o
  20. Hi Ad. I have the Lyman 1200 also. A good little unit. . I use corn cob.
  21. Well, I have had many more with Hornady. This goes round and round and as I have said many times should be pinned. ALL HMR ammo "makes" are effected, there may be odd batch situations where some may be better or worse, but there is NO CURE for splitting cases with todays technology, end of. That's why my HMR had to go. Hornady, Winchester, Remington or ......... even Disney (if they made them ). I just never liked the feeling of "I hope this one will be OK." when I pulled the trigger. .
  22. I had lots of problems with splitting cases with the Winchesters. Stick with Hornady.
  23. Vortex scopes are great for daytime use, but give a poor performance at night when used with NV add-on equipment.
