  2. Hi everyone I feed ducks chick crumbs you can't feed theone which treats cocciosis it could kill them, then on to growers and at 8 weeks half growers half wheat right up to point of lay Atb
  3. Well I would normally of stopped but I've bought some silver laced wyandottes of a breeder in cheshire who has won the national. So I've stuck a load of eggs in just because I'd like some birds for next year.
  4. I think you have to make sure the chickens are wormed. But after my experience I wouldn't keep them together. They start showing signs of blackhead around 10 weeks, well mine did and believe me it doesn't take long before they died. Sorry to put a downer on it. Atb?
  5. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackhead_disease I have made the mistake and kept turkey's and chickens on our farm. The link will explain it better than I can but basicly, we raised 100 turkey's for Xmas. We had to walk through our hens field to the turkey's and basically wiped out half. It was our fault just in experienced. Hope this heps you ?
  6. Hey fair play to you mate. How much you paying for grazing if you don't mind me asking?
  7. Are your drinkers nice and clean? With the hot weather the water goes a bit stale and that can give your birds a bit of a stomach ache. Atb?
  8. Anyone in the kent area fancy coming to get rid of a fox for me! Have a poultry business and it has been taking some hens recently Atb
  9. Anyone on here know anyone down folkestone way who could come and get rid of a fox for me? I have a poultry buisness and we have lost a few birds lately Cheers
  10. Interesting stuff chicken man. I alway new that game birds we're feed differently. How many birds have you got? And how much does it set you back to feed them if you don't mind me asking?
  11. Sounds interesting mate, I don't know what a bull cock is? Some sort of game bird I'm guessing luv to see some pics when you get him. Keep us posted. Atb?
  12. Hi mate,Hybrids do not breed true. If you cross a hybrid chicken with another breed or cross, you will not get the same bird with the same performance as the original hybrid, however 'like breeds like' and if you are careful with your choice of cross, you can still get some reasonably well performing birds. Blacktails are a RIR x Sussex and bovans are a RIR x Plymouth Rock. So id say they'll through more to the RIR hybrid Atb?
  13. Got a mate who said he will come and shot it.
  14. Hi mate, I've got Dark Dorkings, Buff Sussex, Red Sussex, Chamois Polish, Barnvelders and Seramas in this this one. Theres about 150 eggs in total so I didn't really want a power cut. But after reading the posts I think it should be ok Atb?
  15. Hi lads!! Just need a bit of advice me fox has been paying my chickens and I'm going to buy myself a trap just looked on ebay any ideas what the best ones are? Atb
  16. Yeah I hope so! I candled the eggs this morning and it looks like there still alive. I think it's going to be ok?.
  17. Had a power cut for a couple of hours and my incubator is on day 10. Anyone experienced this I think I'm going to leave it running and take a chance. Il check the eggs in a few days to see if there's any development?
  18. Egg eaters pain in the arse!!!! Just got to make sure you collect the eggs early, so there not sitting about to long. A good trick is to fill an egg with mustard they soon change there eating habits lol. But the do like eating there own eggs if allowed. Next stop the pot ?
  19. Yeah some hybrids do slow down in the second year should only be about 20% though. Them light Sussex hybrids get to fat if your not careful. Thats why I suggested black rocks they are a good second year bird and very good in the winter. when it's chucking down with rain there always the driest birds. Atb?
  20. Just leave garlic in there water all the time, I leave about 4-5 cloves in and just add fresh water when it's nearly empty, so they drink the all the garlic water. They even start to grow after a while. Atb?
  21. Yeah the beddy whippet was bought from both working parents. He slowly learning not to chase the chickens lol. Just waing now for me first ferrets from me mate. I like the look of all the game birds on here something I'd like to try. Yeah it's good fun but hard graft 24/7 but my wife's on board so it's a join effort.
  22. Yeah we've got about 6 acres, we did just keep hybrids for eggs and sell them to restaurants and from the gate, we done really well but needed more room to take it to the the next level, so we decided to stop and sold all the birds of. They sold really well and that inspired is to start selling POLs from the gate. We buy in about 500 chicks rear them in the barn then put them out free range to sell. I've always kept pure breeds which is what I really enjoy. We keep about 10 different breeds orpingtons,RIRs ,indian game, silver laced wyandottes, sumatras and recently just got some dark Dorkings
  23. There vaccinated against. Mycoplasma, Newcastle disease, salmonella, egg drop syndrome, infectious bronchitis, cocciosiss, Mareks, there's a couple of others but can't remember of the top of my head. Most Hybrids you buy will be vaccinated against some of they above, different hatcheries vaccinate against different things. I have bought birds that are not vaccinated and they've been fine. It's when you have vaccinated birds mixing with un vaccinated birds you may get problems. But if it's just a few hens in your garden you should be ok. Atb?
  24. Shame your so far away I've got about 400 different hybrids running about at the moment. Atb?
