  1. I know there's the original breeder of black rocks up in Scotland somewhere. They'd be a good bird to start with, very robust and lay loads of eggs. Don't eat a lot of food and if taken care of they won't let to you down. Just google black rocks I'm sure the hatchery is up your way. Someone will have some. Atb?
  2. Leghorns don't tend to go broody. Rhode Island Red bantams are good little birds. Leghorns are cracking layers but I wouldn't recommend keeping them in a garden run unless they've got plenty of room as the really like ranging and scratching about. They tend not to do well cooped up. RIRs on the other hand will do well in smaller conditions just as long as it's not a shoe box. Atb?

  4. Hi mate, it's hard to tell really, but all puffed up it could be cocciosis they look a bit like that, all puffed up just standing there. But without seeing him it's really hard to tell. We're all the other birds ok? Was his vent soiled?
  5. Is say it's microplasma basicly in I terms he got a cold! You want tylan 2000 it's about £25 from ya vets should clear it up! Atb?
  6. Totally agree withe chicken man. People that hatch chicks late are not doing themselves any favours not enough daylight ours to grow properly. They just end up looking scrawny I wouldnt hatch no later than end of May early June. Both my incubators are on now, that will be my lot this year. Atb?
  7. It could be Microplasma has it got any discharge coming from his beak? Or possibly worms or even possibly canker there's a list if things it could be! Is he coughing or making any funny noises??
  8. Sorry to hear that mate. I had a wellsumer do the same thing but was killing them whilst they were hatching. Maybe your Spanish hen new something you didn't. Joys of breeding poultry it's never straight forward Atb?
  9. Nice 1 lads I'll put some pics up when I take some. Atb?
  10. Hi everyone, though I'd share with you that I have just brought a quartet of Dark Dorkings. I've been interested in Keeping Dorkings for ages and finally sourced some good quality stock. I was looking for Silver Greys but the breeder I got them from said she had to give them up because she was plagued with Mareks, so she have them up. So she said she now has the Darks, she said that there was only 90 registered birds left so the Dorking club got together and now have the number up to 250. So I was well interested in getting involved to help the survival of one of our oldest British Breeds. Sh

  15. Sorry pal but aleysbury ducks are no way the best layers. They are a table bird, most aleysburys are not pure either there all hybrids, there's a breeder up North who has a pure strain, http://aylesbury.duckfarm.co.uk/richard/waller/home
  16. Yeah it's nasty gear but does the job though. Learnt the hard way. I tend not to buy birds now just hatching eggs. Just to try and keep mites and different deseases away. Seems to work for me!?
  17. Hi everyone, I use real creosote not the stuff you buy in homebase or B&Q. You can buy it from scats or mole as its called now. The good thing about creosote is that when you paint it on the sheds inside and out, through the summer months the sun shines on the shed and it brings the creosote to life again. I paint my sheds early spring ready for breeding season and then paint the perches 3 or 4 times through the summer and just leave them in the sun to dry. This seems to keep them at bay ,I've bought all the crap the sell for mites and I can't get on with it, creosote works for me every t
  18. To be fair, I wouldn't recommend keeping chickens and ducks in the same pen. The ducks will just mess all the drinking water so the chickens will be drinking dirty water. Make sure you give the ducks a fair sized pen, because they are messy and will turn any grass pen into mud if it's not big enough On the egg laying side I would go for a khaki Campbell I keep both and the Campbell's always lay more eggs. A good Campbell will lay better than a chicken in its first year laying 300 + eggs. Mine are the kortlang strain you can google it and read about them Atb
  19. Hi mate, just type leghorn club and have a look on the clubs website there's a list of breeders on there, you should find one easy enough
  20. To be honest I'm not going to be using it too much so I won't be spending £300 on one. I'm sure you can get a lovely gun for that but il start off with something cheaper, and if I get the bugg then maybe i will pay that. You don't tell someone who's just passed there driving test to go out and buy a Ferrari do you. Lol?
  21. Ok nice one lads, any good places online to look at?
  22. Hi everyone not posted on here before. I'm looking for some advice I breed poultry and I'm getting plagued with rooks and magpies eating eggs and feed. I want to get a air rifle and I don't want to spend no more than £150 or a tad higher. Been on a few sites and there's loads, so I'm not sure what's good or bad Any advice would be gratefull Cheers
  23. It's breeding season they are just competing for hens. They can even see you as a threat, cockerels always get gee'd up this time of year it's just nature. Atb
