  1. the 7.5 primers are better mate thicker cup hold up to pressure better
  2. having a go himself dear game isnt it if he gets it wrong. and will have to have the right gear to do it with. its not a hammer and screwdriver job
  3. just buy one of the argos safes to keep the ammo in
  4. yes it will let you see the bullets to the ogive. it will make your rounds more consistent if doing this. as you know measuring to the tip of the bullets doesn't give you a proper reading of your rounds as bullet tips in some brands can be a lot different. i checked some 20 vmax the other day for my 17 cf. and there was 3 to 5 tho difference in them.
  5. I use Richard pope in Bromsgrove. turn around times can be a little slow. but he know's his stuff and his work is top notch. prices are very good to. or there is neil mckillop in basinstoke. he is on most the shooting forums under the name dasherman. I haven't had work done by him. but have a couple of mates who have and shoot rifles he built. and there superb and turn around time is very good also. as he keeps a lot of barrels in stock.
  6. my chamber is tight on mine. i had to fls all my brass when i 1st got it. as i couldnt get the bolt down. it fits snug now. ive had 3 firings out of some of the brass. and it hasn't moved. some of the brass is still under trim length
  7. havent been shooting as much lately with my dad being ill. anyway he was due to go in for a stem cell transplant. so he said lets go out for a couple of hours on the weekend before he go's into hospital on the monday. we popped to a local shoot 5 mins up the road only acres. but the two crop fields have been cut so i said im sure we will get a fox or two in the bag. we took the m595 17 fireball loaded up with some 20 grain vmax. pulled into a grass field next to the cut ones. and right away lamp on 4 sets of eyes looking back. tricky thing about this little shoot is the ground is ver
  8. use a orange filter your get more range out the beam then red
  9. tikka m590 or m595, zeiss conquest scope and ase cqb mod
  10. hi mate you cant reload the 17 hmr as its a rim fire. I was on about reloading for the 17 centre fire rifles. if you put 17 centre fire in Google you can read up on them and see the difference in them all. the reason I mention reloading for them. is factory ammo for a 17 centre fire is dear. also not a lot of shops stock the ammo for them. so if you reload you can save money over time. and also have more choice of which bullet you want to use and get better accuracy out of your rifle.
  11. googd shooting that is with the little hmr pill
  12. when i had my fireball built i had to fls all my brass from new as it was to tight to chamber.
  13. cracking round my mate shot mine the other day and he put 3 shots into a silly little group. mine hasn't had much load testing yet also !. im going over to the 25 grain berger bullets soon. as mine is a 10 twist the 25 vmax more then likely wont shoot in it. if you got the 9 twist then your sorted.
  14. i have used 222,17rem fireball,223,22/250 and seen 204 used to great affect to by my mate who has one. he also has a 6br which is very good. what you have to look at is the shooting you do what sort of ground do you shoot over. around here there pretty large fields so most shots are around the 200 yards at night some even out to 250 depending on how lamp shy the fox is. i love the 22/250 it hits very hard, its very forgiving at night under the lamp. by this I mean sometimes range can be hard to get right at night. and you haven't always got the chance to range it with rangefinder. the
  15. hi mate im very interested in the rifle. is it a ambi stock
  16. not done as much this year dave. but soon as the crops are cut will be out alot more over at friends permission in Herefordshire
  17. like the look of the new forum. good going lads
  18. 223 is a good calibre. low recoil, great choice of bullets and very accurate. as for good makes. really you need to go see what your shop has on offer. this way you can guage what suites your needs. i really like the older tikka rifles like the tikka m590 and m595. there superbly built and smooth actions. good trigger and simple safety which locks trigger and bolt. there not to heavy also if you have the sporter model. there are a good number of them about secondhand. hope this helps. like i said though go get a feel of the different rifles. and see which one feels best for yo
  19. we then went back to the 1st permission on the big hill had a call and sure enough foxy come through the bushes at the bottom. he was a bit twitchy and sloped off down the field. tot he bottom corner. ranged it and it was 195 yards. the 204 barked and the 39 grain blizking hit home. dropping him instantly. we then went over to him. i turned it over and the 39 grain blizkings really done a number on him. you could see the rabbit he had mopped up earlier we had left for him. moved off to a new farm and called a cub into 15 yards. my error really as I didn't have rifle ready but di
  20. wont go wrong with the annie mate
  21. tikka m595 is nice if you can find a stainless one. i just sold a tikka t3 stainless in 308 for a mate of mine £350. no one had any interest in it as it was rebarreled by rifle craft with a remmy profile barrel. it looked a little odd where it met the action. but the guy who had it. done some reloads for it the other day. and said it groups superb. jewell trigger is abit more then 50 pound though for a remmy action. more like 200 pound
