  1. I'd be interested to see some photos of vin's setup if either of you have got any. I can't really visualise it.
  2. Wouldn't be my choice. I saw a couple of these in operation last season and the ventilation (in my view) is inadequate - the ferrets got pretty hot and sweaty.
  3. Sounds like the one who no longer looks pregnant is having a phantom pregnancy, ie def NOT pregnant.
  4. Where's your vet? £55's a lot cheaper than anywhere I've been quoted.
  5. Retriever Training The Modern Way by Susan Scales. Not very modern any more as it was published in 1976, but I found it very helpful 30 something years ago when I was training my first lurcher.
  6. Nice looking pup brenner. Hope she comes good for you...
  7. Ah, I understand the breeding now - thanks. Sorry to hear about his brother. That's a constant worry of mine too. I was doing a paid ferreting job a couple of days ago near a road. Not much traffic on it, but the cars that do drive it tend to be going pretty fast. I was checking out the boundary hedge, which was thick hawthorn and blackthorn with sheep netting tight against it on my side. About 40 yards from the road my terrier marked a rabbit in the hedge. Before I could get her on the lead she'd dived through the sheep netting and pushed a rabbit out. I saw it come clear of the hedge and
  8. I'm with stealthy - Great Bustard I reckon.
  9. This probably sounds completely ludicrous, but I remember reading an article online a few years ago in which the author claimed the quickest and easiest way to tan a skin was to soak it in a battery acid solution then wash it thoroughly. Can't remember any of the details but if I can find the article I'll let you know.
  10. Check out her video Some of Joey The Trained Ferret's tricks !!!
  11. Nice samurai. He's got the look of the border about him. Is his dam 3/4 border 1/4 lakie?
  12. If I was in your shoes I think I'd get some straws taken off him and put into storage. Then if you don't find anyone who'll let you use their bitch you could try and source a really well bred bitch pup for yourself and a few years down the line use your current dog if still alive or the straws if he's no longer with you. All the best...
  13. That sounds really encouraging. If one of its siblings is coming good already, I'd say there's hope for the rest of the litter too...
  14. In answer to your original question about whether or not the cross could make a useful moocher, I'd say a definite yes; the genetic potential is there. There was a lad on here - wyang, or something like that - who's got one and was full of praise for it. You've certainly got your work cut out on the socialisation front. The first 16 weeks are the most impressionable period for a puppy. Once older than that it's very hard to achieve what you're attempting. But having said that, I have no idea whether or not the lack of early socialisation would have any effect on the dogs instinct and abili
  15. Nice team you've got there Chicken_man - mix of working styles and abilities so hopefully you get all bases covered
  16. I'm guessing there's a lot of patterdale in his make up. Anything else?
  17. Very impressive MIK - cracking little dog
  18. I thought that. Maybe because the Dam was the whippet? And a non-ped at that? Possibly some greyhound a bit back? Yes, very big. Especially as the sire was a small russell.
  19. Nice Tyla. He looks leggy - how tall?
  20. Completely agree with previous posters about the value of a good marker - I'd hate to go ferreting without one. Over the years I've had all extremes, from my last lurcher who marked extremely subtly, to my current busher who's about as obvious as they come - standing right over the hole staring into it.
  21. Beautiful spot for a wander. And a glorious day for it too.
