  1. I know it probably doesn't seem all that helpful, but I'd suggest going for something as big as possible - however big you make it, it won't be too big. Decide how much room in your garden you're prepared to give over to the ferrets, and how much you're prepared to spend on materials, then just go for it. Mine's done in an L shape - The 3 tier section's 111/2 ft long and just over 2 ft deep and the 2 tier L is 7ft long and 31/2ft wide. Each floor's linked to the one above/below by a length of pipe running the full length of the floor. The bottom right of the 3 tier section's joined
  2. Do a search on here fella - there've been a few previous threads on them
  3. Didn't realise you've only got one leg Gaz Must make digging hard work...
  4. Can't remember where I read about if fireman, but I think hunting 'the carted stag' was pretty widespread, so I suspect your local farmer was just one of quite a few people who did it.
  5. A mate of mine had two small polecat hobs that were out of the same litter, and a few years back I had one that I would say was medium size.
  6. Sounds like a grand day. Bet you were both chuffed to bits.
  7. Hi krawnden great little vids those, was out earlier having a mooch and the terrier pegged one but again for some unknown reason she could not keep hold of it oh well hopefully it's just a glitch, the thing is she has made a fair few catches and up until lately has never had a problem keeping hold of them. atb fella. Although it's frustrating when they can't hang on, at least she's connecting. And if she's already caught a fair few she obviously knows the score. With a bit of luck by losing some she'll learn from it and hopefully it'll soon become a thing of the past.
  8. Foxpack, you're a lucky man to be able to hunt in such stunning country.
  9. I'm well pleased with her fella
  10. 3/4 terrier 1/4 whippet mate. Sire is first cross border terrier x whippet, dam's mixed ancestry terrier; predominantly russell but with a bit of lakeland and patterdale a few generations back.
  11. Here's one from today. My terrier often goes on point like this before going in to flush. As I've never had a busher before I've no idea if that's the norm - anybody else's do the same thing?
  12. Here's another. Unfortunately for some reason the sound didn't come out on this which is a shame 'cos the busher was yelling her head off as she flew out of the brambles.
  13. One of my two from last summer And this from a few days ago
  14. Agree with all replies. But as to your original question about size - I wouldn't worry about it. It's not unusual for hobs to be about twice the size of jills and I've never heard of it being an issue (though to be fair I've never tried a mating like that myself so can't speak from experience. But having said that I currently have a hob at least twice the size of one of my jills and I may well mate them next year and am not put off the idea by the size differential.)
  15. I would reccomend it 100%. Even a quick walk local over the golf course can become something else with a terrier involved. Too right. I've found exactly the same thing since getting mine
  16. NEWKID - lovely shot of your brindle youngster carrying the rabbit
  17. Fuji, that b & w pic's fantastic
  18. Personally I like my busher to give tongue when she finds - I'm deaf as a post so it helps me know what's going on. Sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn't; haven't managed to figure out a pattern to it yet, so I think it could just be completely random!
  19. So sorry to hear that. I once had a promising young lurcher killed on the road so I know how devastating it is. But at least with me it hadn't been preceded by all the other shit you've had to deal with this season. All you can do is keep keeping on....
  20. That busher of yours is a cracking little dog. i bet your glad you went down that road and i wish i had something similar to work alongside my one. had a nice mooch with her today she managed to grab one but for some reason she lost it, strange. atb fella. Yeah, tbh it was the best decision I ever made. Had a great mooch for a couple of hours this afternoon. She pushed out 5 pheasants, 2 woodcock and about half a dozen rabbits, one of which she followed up and caught in the open - that doesn't happen very often! Like yours, she sometimes catches but can't hang on. I think it's because
  21. Beautiful pics Fuji - what spectacular scenery
  22. If you cross a 'pure' poley with an albino, every kit in the litter will be poley coloured but will carry the albino gene. Albinism is recessive, that's why none of the kits will be albinos. If you then cross one of those kits to another poley bred the same way, each parent carries one poley gene and one albino gene. There are 4 possible gene combinations for the resultant kits - # poley/poley (poley coloured) # poley/albino (poley coloured) # albino/poley (poley coloured) # albino/albino (albino) Because albinism is recessive it only occurs when both colour genes are albino. So if you
