I only got myself set up again this year. Still had my hutch, thanks to a member on here I soon had a hob and a jill from 2015 litter and also the opportunity to work them when they were ready. I soon picked up another couple of jills and built a second hutch. The plan was always to give them a little try this season, tho we didnt really get one, and then get them into it properly next season. I got out a few times with them but not a lot at all. still handling everyday and spending time with them. Now I am planning on building a proper court over the summer to get them a bit sharper for work

Mine hasn't been agressive yet but he is doing a lot more chunttering when I am around the hutches.

looking forwards to seeing it! hows jack the dog settling in? Jack the dog??? Must be thinkin of someone else fella, Ive got three dogs too many already, I havent been takin anymore on!!!
-
Thats what I was expectin with the swelling. If this is the sign of being in season then none of my three jills are in season yet. Hob looks like he has swallowed a couple of golf balls though and they have ended up between his back legs!

Well I know it hasnt exactly been dry but my test hole has maintained water level where the clay level is. Had further discussions with local farmer and looking to get the machinery on the garden through the sprong. Mrs not over the moon because she wants a new bathroom and kitchen but told her I can sort that through winter! Not much of an update I know but will get pics up when work starts.

just put the pump in the last chamber or if its inline put it after the the filters but before the uvdon't put the uv before the filters I used to have it after the pump before the filter but I didnt have a bottom drain type.

hopefully that is all it was then because I dont need kits at the minute!!! My misus is due to drop and the house isnt ready for the new addition yet so Ive got enough on!

I caught a tadpole in France. 47.5lb as above it was a tidler for a wels but did I know I had it on. best fight Ive ever had by a long way.

Long story short I think I have left it to late for splitting my hob from my jills. I havent seen any signs of the girls being in season though I am an ametuer (I was expecting swollen back end and spottin) so I left him in with them. I have been up today and one of the jills looks like he has been having her by the neck can tell by her fur, so maybe hes been on the job? I have now put him on his own in a seperate hutch. Is it to early for them to breed sucessfully? Is there a way to tell if she is pregnant or is it just wait and see? Should I put her on her own for protection from th

That is a beast of a pond albert! Mine was about 8000litres I think and that was too big for the garden really!!! Proper job aswell if heated and sand filters. Ive had a look in mi shed rex and I dont have filter or pump anymore. There is a UV light you are welcome to if you want it. its about 3ft long tube do a good job for your pond. Not sure how you incorporate it in a gravity fed system though?

they are all on mi laptop that the misus has broke! I am guna get them extracted and get some up on here. it was my pride and joy. 16ft x 16ft square down to 5ft deep in middle. I took a lot of pride in keeping the water crystal clear. Be careful mate, it can soon become an obsession. One day you fancy a pond next minute you are measuring nitrites and nitrates in the water 3 times a day to see how daylight affects it!!! Im no expert either.

Now Ive been talkin about it I want another koi pond!!!

its barnborough not hickleton. dn57ef

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=222045419476&alt=web Something like this. with my blagdon pump I got a flow restrictor so in winter I could slow it down. that is important with a bottom drain because there is no other way of restricting flow. i.e. with an in pond pump system you can move the pump to a different area or onto a marginal shelf so you are only circulating a certain area of the pond but you cant move a bottom drain...if that makes sense!

It would shift the required amount of water but I would be wary, its not a brand I am familiar with and only offering a 30 day warranty. If I were you I would go for a known brand. You wont pay much more for one that size anyway. I had a blagdon pump and ran it for 2 years before I moved house. Then r old man had it and he has had it 2 years now no issues. Think mi father had a hozelock before that and it did 12 years. You Barnsley way on rex? Have you heard of a place called Viscuum water gardens at Hickleton. That used to be really good little family run business and very helpful be wort

Meant to say the filter needs to be level with your pond water level in this type of system.
-
680 gallons is about 3000litres. You need to shift that every 2 hours. so you need a pump that will shift 1500 litres an hour or 25 litres a minute. If I were you I would over size it. A lot depends on how many plants/fish etc you have. my last pond had quite a few koi so in summer I used to cycle the water every hour and turned the flow down in winter.
-
You should have your water cycling at about half the volume per hour. so in theory after two hours all of your water has been through the filter. both gravity fed and pumped systems need a pump. the difference being that in one system you pump water into the filter and gravity takes it back into the pond. In a 'gravity fed' system you pumo water into the pond and gravity takes it back into the filter. with the system you are doing rex you will need a pump in the last compartment of your filter. size wise it will need to have enough duty to cycle the water at rate above. the benefit o

Anyone who gets in a car after a drink thinks about getting caught and the chances of it and if it would affect work not having a car etc etc. How about thinking about the innocent mother and children you may crash into and kill? How about thinking if you were at work and got that call that your family had been killed in a road traffic accident with a drunk driver????? To me it should be lower limits so it means you cant have a drink but also there is no claims of mouthwash and food stuffs etc. minimum 5 year ban from driving. I have said it before on here its about tine we had stiffer se

and yes there are dangerous drivers on the road old, young, male, female, stupid, reckless. It doesnt mean that because you can driver 'better than them' after two pints that that should be acceptable?!?!
-
What I dont understand is 99% of the reason people drink alchol is to feel the effects. If you feel the effects after one pint you shouldnt be getting behind a wheel. If you dont feel the effects after one pint whats the point? As gnipper said have a soft drink or whatever???
-
I often think about how clever we are as a species to be able to do these things, then I think that once upon a time we realised there was a massive pile of rubbish building up and decided itd be a good idea to cover it in soil and seed it and we have pretty much been doing that ever since.

can you imagine HSE over here if canals froze over and council allowed people to skate to work!!!!
-
That just shows you the difference, canals freeze up over there so they skate to work. We get a decent frost and people act like the world is ending!!! I really want to go to canada fishing for sturgeon but with a growing family and looking at the cost of it I cant see it happenin.
