I have fished a lot of waters were topping your bait with a small bright pop up would out catch a standard bottom bait rig. and I always have 1 rod with this on. I have fished waters were a bright pop up was avoided like the plague. but I would still top the bait with a darker pop up to make the rig semi buoyant. I have had sucsess using a handful of bait here and there and at times I couldn't put enough in!. in this game if you don't adapt your setup to suit the lake and conditions your fishing your be going home with a dry net more often than not. there is a reason rigs and baits are gettin

if it aint going in the freezer its more than welcome to stay alive. killing something for the sake of it makes my blood boil. I wouldn't say I get sad about it. I would say I have respect for the quarry and carry out stuff as quickly and humanely as possible..

for me its not ideal to have one dog per quarry I couldn't put enough gear in front of them to make it worth while. a saluki x that can turn his hand to anything is in my opinion one of the best crosses to have...

plenty of other areas to have a run even if you have a asbo moving further a feild would be a wise move instead of losing the lot...

Anyone Running A Bull X With Golly In There Make Up?
GIBB0 replied to 2504's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i had one about 4 years back and he was the best dog i have owned. i had a offer i coudnt refuse for him due to my circumstances and he went to a new owner i tryed to find some pics out but couldnt find any. prob not the most "camera" friendly dog anyway so prob the best. -
now i no some saluki x seem "laid back" but i am a firm beliver in a dog knowing what quarry he is running. take a saluki x that runs a hares on the fen i dont think the next time it goes on the lamp its going to be giving a bunny a 5 min course on the lamp. dogs know the differance in the quarry its running and will adapt to suit it in my opinion.

it seems these days there are a lot of people who own a saluki x and only see fit to run the hare which is all well and good if thats what you want out of the sport. i was just wondering if there has ever really been a quality daytime dog thats not soley been used for coursing hares. all this talk of lamping wrecks the dog this and that i have never really brought into it. how many of you no a dog thats took 3/3 of the fens consistantly and then gone on the lamp day in day out and took a good bags of bunnies the odd fox or deer all pre ban of course. the risk of injurys is always there and i u

14 years is a long long time to have something you dont approve of in your kennel. i would of had to got rid of the dog and the missis and looked for a pup with a bit more promise.... -
maybe catch one in the net and drop one in the open for him once or twice see how he goes from there. but if your dog has selective hearing now It will be 10 times as bad when there is quarry for him to catch. maybe go back to basics for a few weeks get recall spot on then try a dropped rabbit or a nice burry in the open. just be carefull about giving him to much to soon...

How Many People Going Out With The Dogs Today ?
GIBB0 replied to Sean Horgan's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
red and fallow deer odd roe. few hares and enough rabbits to go about not in huge numbers but enough for a steady night. -
still a deadly bait had a load of fish on singles on weedy waters. people seem to be put off by bright colours on harder waters but I never have really and still had some kippers.

love using the tutti's still as good now as they was all that time ago..... location is far more important...

whats the breeding of the rough coated one he looks just my type!!

you can wait for months on end for the right parents and bloodline to come along to get something your happy with for it to turn out no better than any other dog you had seen before you may of put the odds in your favour but its never a cert. sometimes you just cant beat a gut feeling...
-
in my opinion you cant compare the two its 2 completely different running styles the hare is obviously a better COURSING challenge than a fox. a dog who is not committed can make a fox look better than it is. take nothing away from a fox they can turn on a dime and I have seen some great courses more often than not on the lamp with the use of more twists and turns than flat out speed.

the next one I get will be a dog. suits me better. really cant be doing with moody bitches breaking down...

I am pretty sure he knows whats best for HIS dog...

yea depends on the ground for me if its nice and open I wont put a net down. 1 caught by the dog is worth 5 in a net in my eyes.
