There was an akita years ago that use to guard a warehouse on an industrial estate not far from Chesterfield, to get past the dog they chucked a greyhound over the fence so as the akita was smashing the greyhound all over they were free to take what they wanted.

the dogs can be sold\exchanged and often do so for serious money. I agree to an extent about it being childish unless the dog is working in security\police or army. Allowing anybody to have a trained attack dog is dangerous and I wonder how many end up in the wrong hands.
